Really disappointing to note that the furthest north in the next home ashes is Nottingham. Nothing at Headingley and nothing at lancs. 2 in London, 1 in Hampshire, Edgbaston and Trent bridge. Nothing at Headingley is particularly shocking given the ashes results and support there
I think it resorts to the same five as this year again in 2031.

Looks like Lancashire v Essex will end up a low points draw with rain every day this week as it stands in Blackpool.

They are taking turns these days, both get Ashes Tests in 2031 and India in 2025 and OT has India in 2029 too. So they have 3 of the 4 big series in the 7 year cycle.

Will be interesting to see whether they squeeze the Ashes into such a short period in 2027 and 2031. Might need to see how many injuries are picked up over this summer.

Seems like this is rushed to get it done before the Hundred. The future of the Hundred isn't certain though, which is delaying the County restructuring, both of which are sore subjects.

In the squad for today . Form hasn't been good, Smith and Jack's are performing well.
Got a ton for the seconds against Middlesex last week. Feel a bit sorry for him, as Sibley’s return saw him squeezed out, and with Pope having to bat at 3 to help for England that has reduced his chances further. The scores from the top order have been quite poor of late, save for Sibley’s heroic stand at Canterbury, so perhaps it’s time to give him another shot.

Stokes said Jimmy will definitely play at Old Trafford. So i’d assume he comes in for Robinson. Hopefully he can find some of his old magic. Won’t happen but i’d go Foakes for Ali. More trustworthy with the bat and God knows how many runs he’d save us with the gloves. Suicide to stick with Bairstow just because we managed to win that one. Yes Ali got 2 big wickets but only down to shit shots. Root can hold up an end just as well if needed.

Absolutely brilliant series to watch so far.
I didnt hear the interviews, but if he's going to play you would have to imagine your correct and will replace Robinson .
I'd like Foakes in place of Bairstow rather than Ali , their reasoning for playing Bairstow was his batting, but that's also been inept , can see it tho

Have they ever played in tandem in a Test match? I’m not sure that they have (not checked), though I do seem to recall that England have never been able to field Anderson, Archer, Broad, and Wood in the same side, which in my mind is the most potent attack.
Like i said a sight to behold.Maybe one day before Jimmy retires.
Hopefully Stone will be back soon.

Based on all the noise that comes out of the England setup now I'd be surprised to see any change other than Jimmy for Robinson. Bairstow was our match winner last summer and he'll be backed to regain form. Drop him and you risk destroying that whole team spirit and mantra centred around backing yourself, enjoying your cricket and not worrying about failing. He's got 9 days to just re-focus and sort himself out. When under fire or up against it he usually shines.

Similarly with Moeen. He's come out of retirement to help the team. He put himself forward to bat at 3 which may not have worked but shows his confidence and it certainly helped Brook go back down the order where he thrives.

With it being a must win for England, I wonder if we'll maybe drop Ali though and play Foakes as a wicketkeeper and let JB bat. Probably gives us a few more runs but weakens our bowling options. It's whether these 9 days enable Stokes to recover enough to give us a spell of bowling. Wood could well end up like Robinson and then you've got three seamers and a part time spinner and suddenly it doesn't look so smart.

There's no way Stokes drops Bairstow. It goes against the whole team spirit of confidence and harmony and no fear of failure. Bairstow has time to recover, get his head back in the game and go again next week. He was our match winner last summer, he deserves that faith. We could have had Foakes in as keeper and Bairstow as a batsmen but we needed the extra bowler to cover for Wood's limited spells...and then Robbo got injured! Tough to know what to do with the number 3. It has to be Root because otherwise he's in as early as a number 3 but batting at 4! Moeen should keep getting better with time in the middle. He picked up wickets and had the confidence to go and bat at 3 which might not have worked, but will see him probably retain his place and it did mean Brook got the runs he did down the order and essentially won us the test.
I've said I can't see it, mate, due to understanding that ethos, but not what I would do . And personally I never joined the Bairstow out brigade till after he was out in the second innings . For me, enough is enough, but I don't belive it would happen

On the current forecast the OT Test will be a draw even through they are giving 15/4 which seems good value.

Thursday looks the most likely day for Lancashire to get some overs in, and the last decent day for England.

A win percentage of just under 40 at Lord’s. Not sure you can level that charge at Lord’s after this year’s rumpus. ;-)
Is that in ashes tests? Thought we’d only beaten em twice since the thirties or something, or are we going back to WG Grace days :)
