Towns & Cities that are F----d.

Yeah he said something about that to me,but he also said all the questions and scrutiny didn't stop
people from buying alcohol , he said drunkeness was rife there and people would just drive to local towns
where they could buy it easilly,it was just a bit of a shock to him when he first got questioned by security guards
in shops selling alcohol.
He shoulda swerved the bottle shops and gone to Bojangles saloon right in the centre of town, great atmosphere and some real characters in there, I swear one bloke was the original Croc Dundee :)

Loved the doors :)

Todds Tavern was also good..people there so friendly they love tourists.

Has anybody mentioned Accrington yet? On Death Row already with Pubs and Shops shutting all over and then COVID kicked in big time. The folk are fine and keep their heads up but the Town is an absolute shithole
Just once. Spent a cold time on their station waiting for a train after Accrington Stanley v Hereford United. Nowhere was open even for a couple of cans. Was a bleak place.

Must be true if the Government said it's true. It's not like they're dishonest is it.
OK. It's not much of a counter argument, and cynicism has been your response on two occasions now.

It's a reflection of just how jaded some have become with the dishonesty of politicians and their supporters in the media.

What or who do you want to believe? Official statistics? Newspaper headlines? Politicians? The bloke down the pub? Talking to aliens?

It wasn't the government stating those figures, it was the Office for National Statistics, and a House of Lords report into the affects of knife crime, but that doesn't matter.

Believe what you want to, enjoy listening to your Jazz, and I wish you well.

I used to travel to the North East regularly and can say without doubt the biggest shit hole up there was Grangetown near Middlesbrough.

The kids played a form of “chicken” up there, they’d wait for a bus to come round a corner, run out in front of it and keep running until the bus was catching them up then dive back onto the pavement.

Not looking for an argument, you started with criticising my post about the world in general which you seemed to take personally with your subsequent defence of the UK. When I wasn't even talking about the UK except for one small mention of knife crime.
I get the feeling you think there is no UK knife problem.
My cynical quip about the Governments and their lies again isn't just referencing the UK but pretty much all nations.
I'm amazed you think Government (and those that they have influence over) figures are not contrived to make things look more favourably..(thinking Boris and his magic bus 300 Mill/week to the NHS)
I think violence and violent crime in the Western world is getting worse, whether its guns, mass shootings or knife crime.
If you disagree, just disagree. That's fine...But please don't quote Tory government figures at me. I don't believe them.

You and Simon & Garfunkel. (OK that was Widnes, but at least you could've written a song about it.)

Know some people who are American, but very, very Anglophile and tuned in to Europe. After many years in London, they moved back to Chicago and bought a very nice apartment, with huge windows overlooking the lake, in an architecturally valuable, listed building (Mies van der Rohe, would you believe?).
Get this: they bought that because they couldn't afford their first choice — a decent sized flat in London!
Anyway, my main point is this: last time I saw them, they'd just been through one hell of a winter. They said that it got so seriously cold outside that they literally did not leave the apartment for a week, just living on stocked up food. It was about 20°C below outside, but the wind chill factor coming off the lake made it feel positively Antarctic.
Anyway, my heart does not bleed for them. They're doing alright. They also own an apartment in Avignon, which they fly into from time to time. So there are consolations for the continental climate…
1) Clearly not true Chicagoans if -20C keeps them indoors!
2) London prices are stupid, but scarcity drives price.
3) Generally prices all over England are FAR in excess of the USA.

The 2000 sq ft, 4BR/2BA lake house I just bought was about £100/sq ft on 1 acre of land. Not a chance in hell of anything close to those prices in the UK. In fact, I’ve looked at some decent trailer homes “chalets” close to Windermere for double that…and you only have 10 mo occupancy!

And, my price includes use of boat ramp, private beach, greens fees on the golf course, indoor & outdoor pools, gym, clubhouse, ski hill & tubing pull, and the use of a campground for guests. Boat slip is extra. Those amenities are all covered by an annual £2,000 association fee that includes snow removal on the roads.

That’s an impossible find in the UK.

Don’t be such a baby. Get out there ice fishing
You’re clearly not much of a lake effect guy, as the water is usually far too warm to go ice fishing when the lake effect is in full swing, as that’s what helps create it!

Once the lakes get their hard winter freeze the temperature gradient and source of moisture are pretty much gone!!

How would a frozen lake increase or decrease the chances of lake-effect snow?

Once the water freezes over, then the evaporation is largely reduced and then there's a reduction of lake-effect snow.
