Newcastle Thread - 2023/24

The ex Milan player may have looked less than happy. Could be down to something as simple as tiredness.

A lot of the comments on social media however are probably from the jealous supporting red mob thinking how dare a top player not join them. ie snobbery.

Remember the “joke” just after our take over that new City players thought they were joining Utd. Seems like only yesterday.

He rarely looks happy.

I liked the one where Beardsley sucked a lemon and the lemon winced. Quite cruel really.

I think 9 times out of 10, if you have to look like Beardsley to play like him, you'd take it. He would be worth an absolute fortune if he was playing now. He's one of the most under rated players we've ever produced. I had the fortune of watching most of his games for us and he was a very special footballer and a bit like a template for what Messi became.

He was sat about three seats away from me and my son at Wembley against Arsenal in a Cup Final a few years ago. My son also worked at St James’ Park with him whilst studying at university.

This guy...?

Is that not Steve Bruce in his prime?

I heard his (very) short career at city ended because he caught one of the cleaners making a Quasimodo joke.

Beardsley was a top player in his prime but fans are ruthless.
He’s lucky social media didn’t exist back then.

I would take the rumours with a pinch of salt as they seem to have come from bitter Milan fans as soon as he signed. His agent has said that Tonali is delighted with the move, the Milan manager has also said the same.

Tonali came over for a day during his holiday and was taken house hunting and shown around the facilities at St James’ and the training ground. The only negative comments have again been from Milan fans.

Tonali has released a new video over the last 24 hours or so with Sam Fender music so he’s picking something up and his wife/girlfriend’s every other word when getting shown around was ‘wow’.

Do a Google image search for Tonali and you’ll struggle to find any photograph of him smiling, it would appear that it’s something he rarely does.
You really think he spends time producing these videos? But yes he does rarely look happy.

will they start going in the market?
Tonali a great start but quite a few more gaps in the squad. Barnes is a decent player but not like they need more left sided attackers unless they plan to play him inverted.

certainly looks like they wont splash the cash that much this window. looks like a max 100m net spend (lower than any top6-top7 rivals probably except us with Txiki going for netspend trophy) to me and I assume they will still get some revenue in for 3-4 faces moved out.

must be thinking "shall we sell some of deadwood to Saudi clubs" given many other PL clubs doing the same. :)

wait until there are rumours in the winter that few of those better players going to Saudi turn up on loan at Newcastle haha.

Howe has said today that we're not close to signing anybody at the minute and we don't have a lot to spend and I don't think he's bluffing. I think we do need to see if we can get some interest in some of our shite from Saudi, everybody else is so the Premiership can't really complain if we do.

Problem the other clubs will have is how are they going to say the transfer fee is inflated.
Let's say they pay £40m for him. How do they say that it's too much?
With Fabhino going for £40m they can't.

Seems it's ok for Liverpool but not Newcastle.

They will have fun with this, the Saudi's are going big on promoting their league and they need to get in the right calibre of player. The value that they choose to pay will be what they deem to be a fair market value to them.

Seems it's ok for Liverpool but not Newcastle.

Deflection tactics in the red biased media once again using scare rumours over Newcastle/Saudi links.

The facts are that Newcastle United's qualification for the Champions League will lead to a significant increase in their revenue for their future spend under FFP, regardless of selling players. Is this not how the much vaunted organic growth peddled by certain clubs is meant to work?.

Arsenal, Liverpool and ManU have all failed to qualify in recent years without coming under the same financial scrutiny or innuendo over their spending in spite of two of these instigators of FFP already being found guilty of breaching in essence their own FFP rules.

At least Liverpool had mitigating circumstances at the time by not qualifying for European competitions so avoided sanctions. They also could point to the £50m new ground feasiblity plans project with player costs seemingly continued to be covered by revenue from the Coutinho sale. (Who determined this was fair value and what were the other bids?)

Clear and obvious and becoming tedious.
