Just can’t fathom why they could not start early 9.30 ish or finish later given the forecasts but then again it may be too simple

I've said my piece, and this will be my last word in this particular exchange.
I honestly didn't mean it to come across as me arguing with you. I wasn't, far from it. Apologies if it came across that way I'm just very frustrated that a chance to take the Ashes to the last test has gone. It may well be that, if we had declared an hour earlier, we probably wouldn't have taken the extra 6 wickets in the extra hour's bowling and would have needed some time today, which we wouldn't have got anyway. It's just "grrrrr".

No worries. Yours is one of the most unswervingly moderate voices on here. Fitting, really, considering your role. I've only seen you lose your rag (!) completely once or twice, and it was handsomely deserved.

add in that the spectators/staff have to get there and get ready, which is more difficult with an earlier start. Can't change the start by much during the match as it means anyone travelling a distance may then miss a big chunk.

Sorry Paul but the first test is as important as any other if not more so. Yes you have four tests to catch up but it can set the tone.
I understand what you are saying however.
It can’t be depended on especially with the series at this point . Terrible way to not win the ashes . Sad end

Mad sport that, where you can be in a winning position but have it taken away because of the rain.

Nice and snug in the clubhouse at least.

So annoying it’s unbelievable. All that effort for it to be scuppered by the weather. It’s just not right somehow. They could add on a day to the next Oval test to finish playing this one!

pretty much any set of tests in England is going to have at least one fucked by the weather, hence when Oz went 2-0 up it was all but curtains. Congratulations to our Aussie blue brethren on retaining the Ashes.
