Two great test matches. Like it says on the tin it's a 'test' in all aspects of the game.
It was interesting listening to the commentators and Harsha Bhogle in particular.
He was talking about Simon Kerrigan getting the yips on debut and never playing for England again. He barely played for Lancs either such was his treatment.

But compare Stokes and his handling of Hartley. Could've took him off in the first innings and never bowled him again. But he backed him and he got the dividends today.

Hartley said that in the dressing room the skipper, the coach and his team mates were all supportive and positive and it gave him the confidence to perform.

Excellent write up on Beeb website titled the Hyderabad heist.

If the Beeb could just move on from from petty tribal stuff their football coverage could be very decent.

Cricket journalism has never succumbed to the tribal nonsense and is all the better for it. From Neville Cardus to the present day, there have been some great cricket writers. I quite like Athers‘ articles.

Athers is probably the best sports journalist out there at the moment probably the best since Simon Barnes in my view.

Just read the Heist article, prompted by you. Excellent appraisal of this team.

Maybe — dare I say it? — a bit of a lesson there in the way to handle very promising young athletes (in every field). And by the way, it broadly corresponds to the way City bring academy products through, when they think they can really make it. Most of the time, City get it right with that policy.

Totally agree. Kerrigan was destroyed by a set up that was frightened to lose.
This set up tries to win every game, as proved with the NZ series when we could've batted on in the first innings and guaranteed a draw in the 2nd test and secured a series win.
We didn't (much to my annoyance at the time and WE lost by one run!!!!!!) but maybe, just maybe it pays off in other matches.

At Newcastle Pep was prepared to lose going for the win. Bobb was trusted over Grealish in a game that most would've taken a point beforehand.
Bobb knows he's there on merit not to fill a quota.

And that mentality is why Hartley, Rehan Ahmed are allowed to flourish.
The coach and capt clearly back each individual. Make them feel NEEDED.
Yeah they'll lose and they'll go for a lot of runs, but it's how you back them when they're struggling that makes the difference.
