Liverpool Thread - 2023/24

Just a thing with Sky which I just can't understand: Every day now, for what seems to be almost a week, on their main football site the Henderson to Saudi transfer has been up top among the news, articles written, tribute from Klopp calling him a "legend". Legend? Seriously?
So, a decent ageing player who really didn't do anything special and meant nothing more to the game than any other decent player gets all this attention.

Meanwhile, possibly one of the most influential and most highly regarded footballer in the PL of all time, David Silva announces his retirement. For 10 years he got praise from managers, pundits and players from all the teams, a decade of brilliance; a role model both on and off the pitch who will no longer be playing football.
His retirement gets a single notion, and is no longer showing on Sky's main football site.

Sorry for the morning rant, and maybe this is off-topic, - but this is just shitty from Sky.

Sorry but if any of them were awarded the payday Henderson has they wouldn’t be seen for dust. Henderson has a duty to his family and children, going over to Saudi and playing they are financially secure for some time. Why do they take issue with people leaving their club to go somewhere else, Sterling being one example of someone who left to win a lot more trophies at City than he would have at Liverpool.

Yeah, his children and his future grandchildren would have had a real struggle if Hendo didn’t make this move. He simply had no choice but to take the money. Honest

But it's all pretty relative isn't it? Even if he's already rich, almost everyone, even those in a high paying job would jump at the chance to make multiple of their current salary, especially when they only have a couple of years left.

It's easy for everyone to act noble when the £700k a week isn't on their table.

Anyway as rich as he is, far richer people than him have lost their money. So I can't blame anyone at that stage of a career going to get that kind of money

Plus, its good it highlights that these players don't give a shite about the causes they pretend to support, it's all PR driven. Might be good for that to be highlighted so we can get back to football.

I can see your point but with the money they already have i don’t particularly agree. As you say though as none of us are gonna ever be offered 700k a week:) it’s impossible to say conclusively what we’d do.

Not read any of the scouse forums but gather Henderson has been getting plenty of grief. Incidentally has Gerrard also been slated by the cult?

He will earn £109.2m tax free over the next 3 years instead of £14.5m taxable.It’s a no brainer!

All those that would turn it down, can you tell me if same sex relationships are more likely with none of the worlds eyes on it. They are going through a process of liberalisation, it will take time. Often those at the top are liberal, educated in the west but you need the majority to catch up. Iran, Afghanistan & many others were very liberal 50 years ago.
 
RAWK has turned into Red white UKIP kop and it's been legendary to read all the meltdowns there. The Hendo thread was full of xenophobic takes that the mods had to step in and delete the comments and also don't get me started on reddit.

Imagine being a Saudi Liverpool fan, Its like being black in KKK dominated area.

Would you refuse to increase your wages x4 because someone in a sweat shop earning enough for a bowl of rice a day considers you very rich? Doubt it.

Or even a less extreme example, wouls people refuse 800k a year instead of 200k a year because someone on minimum wage thinks they're already rich in comparison? Unlikely.

Its all kind of relative isn't it? Footballer already rich would think why not be worth £80m instead of £20m just for doing their job.

And let's be real, although most of us Will never see £20m in our lives, that just makes someome rich, not wealthy per se. The people paying their wages are wealthy. People with more money than Henderson have blown through it no problem. They get used to a lifestyle they've only ever known as an adult.

He would be stupid not to take that money, given the fact he's as good as finished anyway. 99.9% on this forum would.

He has to be careful with his days spent in the UK for his earnings to be tax free
