Agree, they stumbled through the Champions League, weren’t even champions, straight through to the last 8, no round of 16 and were extremely fortunate to beat Bayern in the final.

When City turned over Madrid, I was confident we would go on and do the whole lot. In both finals City weren’t at the levels seen against Madrid and Bayern but didn’t need to be, they controlled both finals barring a few scary moments towards the end against Inter.

I watched their game with Bayern Munich, played off the park for the vast majority of it, Samuel Umtiti’s reaction at the end summed it up perfectly.

One of my History professors would use the word 'meretricious' in response to ill prepared student arguments on various topics discussed in seminars. Some students actually thought he was praising their efforts!

Always thought 'meretricious' sums up this herbert and his wife, both social climbers who can be seen coming a mile off.

It means 'superficially attractive but without any real worth', 'gaudy' and so on and so on.. In fact, the word's etymology dates back to the Latin 'meretrix', or 'prostitute', which sums up the crass 'Get Becks a knighthood' campaign mounted for years by the media and the team all around 'Mr & Mrs Herbert'.

For those of us overseas, what was the reason?
Beckham seems to fit the bill for this knighthood entitlement rubbish.

Lots of emails were leaked 7/8 years ago from his and his team about their targeted ploy to get a knighthood.

One of them was about them agreeing to do a ‘charity’ appearance in Asia only on the proviso that the charity chartered his personal private jet, paid all costs and then release a PR statement that he had ‘generously given both his time and his own jet to get there’

Other examples were UNICEF who he claims to be his main passion now suggesting he put up $1m to fund a programme and he said ‘no, I don’t want to put my personal money in, it’s my fucking money’ and telling producers he would only go on Jonathan Ross if they used the interview to discuss when he would be getting a knighthood.
