We're still in with a chance of winning this I reckon. No doubt Australia have made a great start and given themselves a platform but they still need nearly 250 runs more to win. Today's a different day and the pitch is that bit older.
My concerns, as ever, are over our attack. For all the talk about what went wrong at Edgbaston to win that game we had to bowl them out deep into the last day. The ease with which they got those final 52 runs from 8 wickets down plus watching us yesterday and the brief period they got last Saturday at OT suggests to me it will be a struggle. Probably another reason why this team prefers chasing.

True enough that. The annoying thing about the Edgbaston test and that 4th innings is that we arguably did the hard part in getting them 8 down - Australia were 7/1 to win the test when Root took that 8th wicket and I should know as I had a cheeky fiver on them! - but couldn't get over the line from there.

12/1 on the Exchanges they drifted too that day. There's been some great odds in this series it's just knowing when to put the fuckin bet on.:)

I have similar concerns, regarding bowling them out, under pressure, as was evident in the first innings.
I hope that Stokes and McCullum take two things away from this series and that is; if you’ve got 7 of the top batters out, just keep doing what you’re doing. Murphy averages 12 and can hardly bat and yet we just kept bowling short, not at the stumps/just outside. Also, don’t give the perceived ‘better batsman’ east runs to try and get the other bloke on strike, both of those things we did in the Edgbaston test.
Secondly, ‘Bazball’ has been hugely entertaining but just needs some sensible cricket that is match dependent now and again. How we’ve let the Aussies even have a sniff of this is beyond frustrating. Losing 5 for 39 in eight overs will likely cost us this game and it was all totally unnecessary.

I made that comment to a work colleague who was there on Saturday - all good and quite controlled until they all got out at the end. Another 50 should have been easy to get.

As it is, I'mm expecting the weather to win out on this one. It's still damp and quite dark.

While I don't disagree that they have got to get smarter in certain situations what I find frustrating is putting everything down to 'Bazball'. Mid innings collapses and questionable bowling tactics have been a feature of England teams for as long as I've been watching.
Again what could cost us winning this game is our failure to bowl them out. Whether we set them 384 or 584 that remains the case.

Did they change the ball last night? Ricky Ponting hasn't mentioned it yet.
p.s. stupid review that. Could come back to haunt us
