Nicoló Barella

TBH I did not think that he played that well in the final against us but I guess it is tough to play against City. I just wonder if he is the correct profile because it seems to me he plays a deeper role than our regular 8s and rarely went into the box. I thought that we were looking for someone opperating closer to the striker like Olmo. But surely he has great quality.

While the money might not be an issue to pay him from Inter, the problem is to convince the player to leaving Italy. Italian player typically is harder wanting to move from outside their country and league.

Unless Inter tell him like AC Milan had done for Sandro Tonali that Inter have to sell him to our club to save their club financially then Nicolo have no other choice but to join us.

Well another way to look at it is that he could hang out with Tonali from time to time at Wetherspoons! They do a great price fish and chips with peas. Embrace and experience new culinary delights. Also don’t have to worry about forest fires, positives galore for him!

He would be incredible for us. I always advocated for Barela in case Bernardo left. With Bernardo staying but Kevin out for months, I think Barella would be the perfect world-class addition we need. I don't think we will be ever able to play Kevin as much as we used to. We have a lot of prospects, so what we really need is someone like Barella to make us immediately stronger, someone who can be relied upon even in the big games. As it stands, we are very thin in midfield as far as trusted options are concerned. Phil, Kovacic, and Rodri. That's it. We can't go into the season with just the 3 of them. Pep doesn't trust Kalvin. We need Bernardo for RW. Barella is the answer, IMO.
£70-80 million would do it I reckon.

Just hoping if we do get him, he is not one of those Italian player that can get homesick easily and wanting to move back to his country after only just one season playing.

We definitely need a player who can play deeper.
I think the reason Paqueta was so sought after is because he was a defensive and attacking midfielder option.

2 birds with 1 stone.

the only player who can replace Kevin De Bruyne now is Federico Valverde(24), can play in many roles like RW and CM. City must spend big(around 110M) for this player as real looking for money to fund Mbappe transfer to real.

its madrid,they have money

Barella and Doku would be great

Pep mentioned in the press conference that if we were doing some more business then it would be for a player with a different profile to KDB so that more than likely rules out a Wirtz, Olmo type player but maybe Barella fits the bill? Like you say, Barella and Doku would be greatly received late in this window

Except Valverde will be very difficult to convince to join us, money is not issue to buy him but the biggest hurdle is the player itself and Madrid is not looking to sell him either.

Brighton's CEO Paul Barber was on BBC saying they plan several windows in advance to bring in replacement players, for all the players that leave. Mitoma was bought and loaned out until he was ready to join the first team. We seem to be getting our replacement players very last minute unfortunately.

What is the last trophy Brighton won?

Comparing City to Brighton is a new low for on here. Anything to knock the club I suppose.

Brighton will be relegated in a few seasons. Come back and compare clubs then.

Because we go after a different profile of player.

Virtually none of the players that we buy for the 1st team are unproven on the PL or CL stage.

The only exceptions to that - over the past years - have been Jesus, Alvarez & Perrone (who has barely made an appearance, so you can't really count him).

Smaller teams also, ironically, face fewer hurdles when trying to register unknown players (as was the case with Douglas Luiz).

It's extremely unlikely that we would have been allowed to buy Mitoma or Caicedo or Estupinian & even more unlikely that we would have been able to give them game time whilst keeping in line with our goals.

Inter are spending big on Pavard, but they've done really well with sales this year so I don't think that tells us anything.

Any chance we try for Barella then? Would be crazy if we managed to get him or Wirtz
