Lucy Letby infant murders trial

This not attending sentencing is going to become a very regular thing I expect / fear.
She's just going to be even more detested. Someone will be motivated to kick the living shit out of it. And no one will care.

This is a major failing in the public service pension scheme.

How many people, especially police, do we hear that were under investigation but have "retired" during the investigation process, whether because of age or on the grounds of ill health?

l think for some people it’s the fact they feel she should hear the impact statements of the victims, although the judge ruled she will be given those transcripts the likelihood is she won’t read them. If it was one of your family members I’m pretty certain that the majority would want to see her face whilst losing her liberty.

If I murdered 7 kids I don't think I'd want to hear the judges remarks either, but I doubt she can be even more detested that she already is, it's either the gravity of what she's done has hit her, or it hasn't, I think it probably hasn't

I wonder, do they have TVs in their cells ? Is she able to see all the media attention and news coverage.

We don’t need to see her because you’re absolutely right that it would become a freak show. But if the victims’ families want her to be present either in person or on a video feed from a cell during impact statements and sentencing, that should be facilitated. Absolutely no need for it to be shown to the general public. Like others have said, there are risks that the killer could use the situation to rub salt in the victims’ wounds which could be managed by having her on a video feed and cutting her off if this starts to happen or have her dragged away by officials if in court.

I believe the families of Letby’s victims are about to learn a very difficult lesson that seeing their child’s murderer getting sentenced is not going to give them any peace, or feel better, or help their grieving process. They won’t feel justice, the desire for revenge won’t be satiated, the awful grief they feel won’t be lightened.

I completely understand why they think it will bring them closure to read a victim impact statement to her or see her face when she finds out how long she’s going to prison, but I think the weight of past experience tells us it won’t help.

You’re probably correct in your last paragraph but I still think it should be up to the victims’ families. Definitely shouldn’t be a public spectacle though.
 
The stats are clear in terms of mortality rates pre and post Letby.. Have no doubt guilty and will have her comeuppance. Watch the Panorama show and I actually know someone who worked with her. People say she was a good nurse. A good family, normal upbringing. What I do can not see is what makes someone do that. I am not making excuses but something made her behave that way, nature, nurture, not a clue. But she does not come acrosss as the typical mass murderer and in fact am not making excuses as she has what she deserved. More a question of why the fuck does someone do it ?? Not sure will get the answer. In truth asssited on a certain blonde murderer having a hysterectomy..trust me..she looked evil.
 
In the cells underneath the courts they should have a cell adapted with speakers built into the wall so they cannot break them and they hear every word of the victim statements and the judges sentencing remarks and the final sentence they have to serve.
Also they should be video recorded as they are listening to it so the families can see there anguish. Don't know if the latter would work but pumping the families statements and the judges condemnation and sentencing into the cell full blast would.

Waste of time trying to understand what made her do it. She’s a freak of nature who will rightly never have a day of freedom for the rest of her miserable life and there’s no point wasting time trying to understand her motivations. The focus needs to be on putting in place measures to detect something similar much earlier if it ever happens again.
 
I don't understand why they can't just drag the offender to the dock to hear the sentence. They have the powers now, they force them into the cell , they can force them out. As a country we worry way too much about crap like this and the rights of offenders. Literally no one cares about the rights of murderers.

im not sure it likely she’ll get justice from other inmates either, hindley and west have they ever been attacked or seriously hurt?

best solution for getting the guilty to listen to the sentencing etc is have them handcuffed in a cell so they can’t put fingers in ears. And have the statements live fed to them on tv and via speakers.

potentially have their response on delayed live feed back to the court then so that if they act up it can be cut off before anyone sees.
