F1 2023 season

Not as long as now.

The sport has never gone almost 10 years consecutively where just two teams have dominated almost every season. Apart from half of 2018 and 2021 every season has been a walk over by either Mercedes or Red Bull.

Find me another consecutive ten years at any other time in F1 history where two teams have dominated so much. You won't be able to.
Williams and McLaren circa 1984-1994

Williams and McLaren circa 1984-1994

That is true but I mean season by season.

2014-2023 has seen one championship long battle between two drivers from different teams in 2021 and an inter team battle in 2016. The other seasons were largely blowouts.

1984-1994 was indeed largely dominated by two teams but there was some tight championship battles.

1984 was the closest finish ever, 1986 was another great championship battle with Mansell losing it when his tyre blew in the final round, 1988 was a classic inter team battle between Prost and Senna, 1990 was another close battle between Prost and Senna and 1994 was a great battle between Schumacher and Hill. So more than double the amount of close championship finishes back then.

Trust me F1 has never been worse than it is now.

1999-2008 inclusive.
Two wins for Renault, the rest Ferrari.

Like I said in my comment to Metal Biker. That is true but I mean season by season.

1999 was a great championship battle between Hakkinen and Irvine. 2000 was an incredible battle between Schumacher and Hakkinen. 2003 was a brilliant championship battle between Schumacher, Raikkonen and Montoya, 2006 was a great battle between Alonso and Schumacher, 2007 was another great season with Hamilton, Alonso and Raikkonen fighting all season long and 2008 was another brilliant championship that was won on the last corner of the last race.

That's six good championships in those ten years!

F1 is absolutely abysmal now compared to those golden days.

No arguments here in that regard.

Races are treated like Premier League matchweeks; points are everything so the race event itself generally no longer has any grandeur about them any more.
Drivers Championship takes way too much attention than the Constructors. I understand the interest is higher, but the CC gets virtually nothing.
Way too many races in a season, and most of them are the dull, boring, 'Tilkedromes'.
Pit crews now have way too many people making pit stops flash by without consequence.
Sprint races can go fuck themselves.

I'm waiting for Audi/Porsche to spice things up a little.

Good point about the Tilkedromes.

I miss the old Hockenheim (when they drove through the forest until it was also Tilke'd with) and the one off Mugello in the COVID season.

They added a bit more drama and danger to the racing.

I fear Vegas is going to be the US Monaco/drivers piss up.

I have got city on but this is the most dramatic race of the season so far.

Alonso is superb. AM have a decent car, shame about their number 2 driver. Waste of a seat.

Pleased for Gasly.

Daddy's boy ain't gonna lose it, sadly.

I mean fair play to him, he's stated in previous races that he's not interested in 'fighting' Alonso for places, but... where's his competitive spirit!?

Aye. Stroll seems a nice chap but AM are losing so many points by keeping him. There's a pool of talent they could pick from as well. Obviously, we all know why he's there.

Would love to be a fly on the wall in the post race Mercedes meeting.

A few teacups may have gone flying. I'm convinced being cheated out of a title has mentally destroyed them.

Max deservedly world champion again. At this rate he'll beat the record with no other team able to compete.
Absolutely bang on, I've held this view for a long time. Michael Masi has a place in F1 history.....
