That’s exactly what we’ve done though… We bid £50m knowing he just had a £45m release clause in his contract, they said no we want £60 so we met them half way. That’s where we stand, if they refuse then we move on. Yet you’re moaning about us doing exactly what you say we should be doing… City can’t win here.
It’s not a new concept City have just invented, every club asked a valuation and bids lower in the hope to save some money. The same way the selling club increase their demand showing they’ll get knocked down. It’s just how football works, bar Chelsea who are sweeping in and asking a valuation “How much?” “£60m” “hmmm… we’ll not pay a penny less than £120m” “ok go on then you twisted our arm”.
As I say we made it clear our valuation knowing they've inflated the price, either a deal is done or it’s not.
I can tell you now though, no way Doku or any other new signing after him plays until Pep is back and looked at them himself. They’ll be on the bench but they’ll not play.

FFS, give it a rest. I'm not moaning. I'm discussing it. I'm allowed an opinion. That's what a forum is for. You need to reread your posts before criticizing others. But I'll take your posts as gospel. ;-)

Did the club ask him to refuse to train?

If he wants to gamble a week's wages on a potential move of a lifetime, call in sick with a headache, or do whatever he wants with his life, how is that a bad look for the club?
This. It‘s mad that people have written a player off because he hasn’t trained for a few days.

Doku literally says that he’s not trained for 4 days and he’s not been written off, but it’s the same people that moan about Sky’s rhetoric that are up in arms because Nunes has been reported as going on strike. On Sky.

None of that is my point really. Bidding once and then just not going in again would be odd.
Not if you flip your logic and realise City had a certain valuation of Rice that was less than West Ham we’re willing to accept. That or Rice told us he preferred Arsenal.

Either way, we were never going to bid again.

One thing is sure and that is the club are in for a ball carrying central midfielder so if we don't sign Nunes and we can't get someone else in before close of play on Friday then we will have failed in that objective.

How costly in terms of success or lack of in the coming season that failure might be we'll only know in around nine months time.

Kovacic is one. He just wasn't allowed to be at Chelsea but with Rodders behind him here, he has the freedom to do so.

At no point during Pep’s reign have we given him a complete squad. Not once. But they’re best mates so no matter what they fail to provide for him, he can let it slide. He also knows he’s elite at his job and can pull a rabbit out of the hat with whatever players we have, or don’t have. But imagine how tetchy things are going to get when our manager doesn’t have that long-standing friendship with the hierarchy and when our manager can’t adapt like Pep. People assume being City manager is an easy job. Let’s see. We have 13 senior outfield players available. With only 2 injuries.
We had a complete squad last season until Cancelo was sent out on loan. Currently I think we have 1 space.

So Damien10 said there was progress but Simon Jones said we were walking. Is that the gist of it?
Tolmie is saying earlier in the day the feeling was we would walk but later in the day it was more positive. Wonder when Simon Jones got his info as it may make a big difference. Transfers are constantly changing probably and so info can become out of date very quickly- it may have collapsed again this morning who knows

You can THIS as much as you want, but one thing is for sure they will finish above Brighton and West Ham
Nobody suggested they wouldn’t… read my post properly instead of getting all high and mighty lol. I said currently they look more a threat and they do! Liverpool are tosh, my entire family support Liverpool so I get it no end on how great they are blah blah blah yet all are saying how poor they are and won’t win the PL. they watch them every game and most are season ticket holders. I trust their opinion over yours so as I said…. This.

My point is that the club are actively looking to bring in another ball carrying midfielder in addition to Kovacic. If we don't then that objective won't have been met.

I've always harbored a suspicion that we only bid for Rice to drive the price up for Arsenal. They've tried to knife us enough times I'd like to think that it was a shot across the bows. It was just so different to any other business we've done before.
