The Pro Road Cycling Thread

Absolutely brilliant weekend up here in Glasgow; great curry, great calzone, and great Guinness. Caught the second half of City today but it is what it is.
To run so many Cycle events at the same time is a monumental achievement for the city. The Danish, Belgian fans giving it large on Montrose St created a brilliant atmosphere, though I love cheesy Euro-techno so I was an easy win.
MvdP, what an amazing rider, esp after his accident.

That top 3 says it all; they really are the best 3 riders in the world. I do think that Danish Lance-O-Like who won the race in France the other week can do one; Pogacar puts himself on the line repeatedly and is clearly the better genuine rider.

This!

The maps for each stage of The of Britain are in this link. Stage One Altrincham to Manchester should be good. It passes through my manor, Hazel Grove, High Lane and Marple. I'll watch the finish in Manchester though.

Does it go past Jacko’s Jailhouse as it was “affectionately” known?! I was told there was a sprint section near there.

I’m tempted more by a ride over to Marple myself if it’s a dry day, though I’m disappointed to see they always seem to go down the big slope past the station into Marple Bridge, when it would actually be even better to see them struggle up it!
Cheers for posting anyway :-)

The sh*t could really hit the fan now.
As in, a team doctor named and found guilty, yet apparently no riders? Who was it actually for?

I may be wrong but read he was involved working with Allardyce at Bolton before he moved to British Cycling.

La Vuelta a Espana isn't on ITV 4 this year. Never mind I'll just have to watch lovely Orla on Eurosport.

This course is lethal with the rain, there’s going to be some huge gaps
Been a busy day for sport today trying to follow the athletics as well, but just caught up with some clips of the footage today.
The rain is one thing, which can’t be factored in, but the low level of street lighting on parts of the course looked shocking.
Riders have lights on their bikes, is that what the organisers expect? Maybe go the whole hog and bring back the dynamo on the tyre!

I’m going for Remco on this tour, so happy with the final outcome tbh.
Even in the days of US postal or Sky we never had one team wiping the floor with everyone else in all 3 Grand Tours, but that’s what JV are looking to do here.

First proper GC day today.
Last hour should make decent viewing, with the climb up to Andorra, then the final climb to the ski station finish.
Fascinating to see how JV play it. Personally I reckon they are gonna back Roglic until any point where/if he seems not to have the legs, and only then would Vingegaard step in. Complete guess of course.

Would love for Geraint Thomas to win this but I can’t see past Vingegaard. He’s a monster.

Don’t usually bother with the Vuelta but I reckon we’re going to have a cracker this year.

Today starts the Tour of Britain. Altrincham-Deansgate. All kicks off at 11:45 and I’m going to cycle to Hale to have a gander. It’s live on ITV4. A bit pee’d off with the BBC as of yesterday it wasn’t even mentioned, not even on their cycling calendar.

I’m off to Ramsbottom where I’ll watch them fly up the Rake like it’s a false flat and piss all over my best time.
