The Conservative Party

considering her role I'd think its her job to find out stuff rather than just say I don't know the costs and I don't know where we are up to

Just as a reminder, phase 1 included Birmingham and a link to the West Coast Main Line near Lichfield. As there's no official announcement, it's not clear now if they would connect to the WCML.

Phase 2a (new line to Crewe) was added to be part of phase 1 and has Royal assent.

Phase 2b (Crewe to Manchester) is still a bill in Parliament. But getting to Crewe and then having to put HS2 trains on existing lines northwards just exacerbates the issues of capacity (fitting freight trains between faster passenger trains).

Badenock on TV this morning saying Goldsmith didn't understand the poor because he is rich - Sunak is 3 times richer than Goldsmith and he knows better eh? Twisted logic there

A bit harsh on Sunak. I mean, obviously he does make up deluded shite but what else can you expect from (at best) a middle level accountant who secured his position via his dad?

Was probably being a bit unfair on middle level accountants. They at least wouldn’t get confused over the numbers 4 and 7.

No.10 should run Sesame Street on a loop for Sunak’s benefit. ‘Today is brought to you by the number 4. Can you hold up four fingers, Rishi? No, that is 7. Try again, 1, 2…’

Nothing to do with our standing. It isn't because the targets were too difficult to meet, they weren't, the car companys are telling us it wasn't. It isn't for innovation, growth or investment reasons this will take away incentive for some of that.

"Billions of pounds has already been invested across multiple industries, including car makers and energy firms, in preparation of the previous deadlines.

Korean carmaker Kia, which has plans to launch nine new electric vehicles over the next few years, said the announcement was disappointing as it "alters complex supply chain negotiations and product planning, whilst potentially contributing to consumer and industry confusion".

The chief executive of energy company E.On, Chris Norbury, said it was a "misstep on many levels", adding that it was a "false argument" to suggest green policies can only come at a cost."

"We risk condemning people to many more years of living in cold and draughty homes that are expensive to heat, in cities clogged with dirty air from fossil fuels, missing out on the economic regeneration this ambition brings," Mr Norbury said.

It was purely self interest attempt to win back some votes it a last gamble before an election year. A gamble that will fail and most likely lose him more votes.

Putting aside the fact that some of the quotes above are a right load of bollocks, are the comments NOT about self interest? Nothing at all to do with E.On being keen on flogging a load more electricity and heat pumps.

How about Jaguar Land Rover, "[The] announcement by the Government on the revised end date for the sale of petrol and diesel cars in the UK is pragmatic and brings the UK in line with other nations, which we welcome."

Because you don’t agree?
Happy to cite my sources but didn’t bother because you haven’t cited yours.
Anyway I’m bored with you now so jog on.
The only source that matters is the ONS and none of their three headline time series on PSND as a share of GDP show anything like the profile you’re suggesting.

Happy to provide the ONS codes for the series if you want to look yourself.
