But all the usual suspects will pick-up on the question posed in the Athletic with glee and will be set in stone forever and repeated ad infinitum.

That is a question for the government and not for City. If they do require an answer however, I would suggest that the Premier League, effectively accusing a member of a royal family, from a country we have close political ties, and a trading relationship with, of systematic fraud in the UK over a prolonged period of time, irrespective of whether in a personal capacity or acting on behalf of a state, is worthy of some concern over future relations.

If a very prominent citizen from country A is accused of misdeeds in country B, misdeeds being strenuously denied by said citizen, then the foreign office/ embassy of country A would raise them with officials of country B. That is very normal and to be expected.

If will happened many many times over the years between many countries. The fact that the Athletic are treating this as a revelation or a story of any worth is pathetic. It’s throwing red meat to the ignorant.
 
They are just preparing the ladder for the climb down, I am not surprised this has come out, it was very clumsy of the PL to do this without consulting the government first, in fact by the looks of it, it was all very rushed and not thought out, done in a fit of pique

I find it extraordinary that the government and civil service have not intervened, accusing a company owned by an person involved with the ruling of a key ally and supplier of energy (and buyer of arms) of what is effectively criminal behavior is never a good thing, as i have always said this will be quietly put to one side and we shall never talk about it again

It was blindiingly obvious at the last football-related Commons Select Comittee that the Government and committee members from all parties have got Richard Master's card marked. They gave him a very hard time over the breakaway superleague proposals. They ridiculed him and stopped just short of calling him a liar.
Preston MP Sir Mark Hendrick, is very well connected in football governance circles has has been so for decades. He described the PL allegations agains City as a "drive-by shooting by the red-shirt clubs." You can be absolutely sure the Government and other members of that Commons committee are totally in the loop about the bad faith shown by the Premier League with their highly political investigation into City. Don't foget that all political parties are pushing for an indepedent regulator because they don't trust the people at the top of the PL.

Other outlets online already reposting it now it’s pretty obvious where this is leading. Saw football twitter accounts with huge following quoting the journo.

Just heard tomorrow's groundbreaking revelations in the Athletic.

Apparently a FOI request has revealed that the subject of the war in Ukraine DID COME UP during recent UK government meetings with President Zelensky.

Further information shows that in their last meeting with UNISON, the government DID chat about pay disputes. More to follow.

I wonder does anyone think the UK government haven’t lobbied the US government over potential very serious charges that could be levied against one of the members of the British royal family?

Maybe the athletic can do a freedom of information request over that and see if they get a similar response.

Uh no, they asked for information using the Freedom of Information Act passed in 2000 to request correspondence between 1/12/2022 and 1/3/2023.

@tolmie's hairdoo I'm surprised a journalist would make this mistake.
