I'm not having a pop at the man. He's got issues for sure.

I don't think the PFA do enough to help troubled players, from grass roots all the way to the very top.

I’m sure I read he’d been inveigled into it by teammates. And this was acknowledged to be as such.

I’m a huge fan of Gascoigne, always have been. He did it early doors in a match against Steaua Bucharest and said that he had death threats, including one at a red light in Glasgow city centre.

To do it again at Parkhead months later is incredibly stupid.

I’m never going to be offended by such a thing but the Rangers fan on here claiming he was set up - yes, he was the first time, but after death threats, maybe don’t do it again.

He’s definitely a ****, but I think the flute was down to ignorance more than anything malign.

Disagree about him being (entirely) overrated as a player, at least before his injury in the FA Cup Final. He had skill, balance and supreme acceleration to get himself away from the defending opposition player. That tackle completely robbed him of the latter. In his prime. Who knows what a player he could have been without that self-imposed hindrance.

I genuinely once had a conversation with Gary Charles about that tackle, sat on a wall on High Pavement in Nottingham.

tbf, he was incredibly magnanimous.

To me, hes a total ****. He went out of his way to see one of the local hardmen bird beating, inherently insecure coked up, roid abusing, jealous sad prick, need everything their way or no way feeble big fanny bastard who had just murdered his girlfriend who had the temerity to leave him, then shot his way out of it including blinding a poor copper who was doing no more than more than a nightshift at work.

And have taken into consideration the reasons behind such illness,those articulated by another poster earlier in this thread.

I had no clue of the personal traumas Gazza had in early life.

There are many ways of looking at a players career.id venture that a working class lad who at the age of 19 made himself the best young player in the country and went on to entertain so many many fans all over Europe should be respected....as a footballer.

Gascoigne was one of the best footballers I've ever watched played the game.
That will be my memory of him. I wished he had turned out for City,he was always star of the show against us And always seemed to score.
Fantastic player.
