Two minors suspended by club for offensive chanting at Brighton game | 17 year old charged by GMP (p29)

The chants seemed a bit tasteless to me , but vile?
Half the jokes that circulate when any celebrity dies seem a bit tasteless are they also worthy of police involvement?

Glad Jimmy Carr doesn't follow City. Or Mrs Brown from Mrs Brown's Boys, but that's just because that isn't comedy.

You do wonder what purpose this serves. Anyone who is famous, or related to someone famous, knows there will be people slagging them off, or mocking them, but it doesn't need to be part of their lives. Over the years, simple societal changes/pressure have ended most large scale offensive chanting, and most people tend to have got the message. Do we really need the law to try and stamp out the few idiots that are always going to be stupid?

Do the relatives of Bobby Charlton really want to see more articles in the press about a handful of kids being stupid, than there are about Charlton's life?

IM sure myself and all the other blues lucky enough to be at the game on Sunday will do the club proud unlike those scamps

Rags have already had a minutes silence, some bagpipes and a minutes clapping, they should leave it out already.

Unless they are thinking of monetising it, it's not like they would would they?

Would they?

To wind up my rag mate i have often sent him a voicenote of me singing the tasteless "we're having a party when Fergie dies" chant

I better lawyer up

Again, double standards with GMP.
Other clubs ie Liverpool about Munich,
Utd about Hillsborough, nothing reported.
When a few kids sing about ticket tout Charlton there’s hell to pay
Much as I recognise how difficult a job the police often have, this for me is the problem as it is with VAR; inconsistency.

Absolute joke, just stinks of desperation by the club to be accepted by the red shirts. Absolute Cowards. Only look out for themselves when they're in court. Couldn't give a toss about fans.

The joint statement pre Liverpool
The lack of action post Liverpool
Publishing all them CCTV faces in the MEN when fans pitch invaded post villa
The silence post CL Final
And instead of dealing with it internally, deciding to throw 2 kids under the bus.

This thread has been an absolute shocker for some blues. It started off really well and respectful to one of the greatest players the country has ever produced.

It soon turned into a debate with quite a few using it to convince themselves and others why Tom Finney, Bobby Moore, Colin Bell or Duncan Edwards were better - completely missing the point that citing a single player for being better than Charlton is actually acknowledging that he was in the top 2/3 English players of all time.

As news emerged that a handful of teenage fuckwits had been chanting a celebratory song about his death, it became the predictable point scoring and a thread posted for people to pay their own respects to the man now includes videos about the death of Leeds fans, the Hillsborough disaster, threats to Joel Glazer and others.

We also have people justifying why they won't be able to be respectful to Alex Ferguson when he dies! "It's not fair, some 'Nited fans put a nasty banner up about City and Alex Ferguson didn't personally climb the stairs to the Stretford End upper tier to take it down! And he backed his own team over their local rivals - there's no way I'll be able to shut my gob for 60 seconds in respect to the death of a man after he said we were noisy neighbours!"

I have my own thoughts on Bobby Charlton but have never met him and only know what I've been told second hand. What I do know though is that he is regarded as probably England's finest ever player and 99% of people who had dealing with him, describe him as a perfect gent. We've all done things that we'd probably change given hindsight.

As the old saying goes, if you've got nothing positive to say, say nowt.

RIP Bobby Charlton.
Good post.

I’m pretty sure the club couldn’t give a fuck about the red shirts, or being accepted by them.

At the end of the day they have had to be seen to do something about this. Comparing it to other chants is simply not going to work.

These idiots have live streamed or uploaded themselves singing about the death of Charlton the very afternoon it happened. That’s why the club have got heavy-handed with it. They’ve had to, and who forced their hand? The 3 children in question. There is no point blaming the club for its response.

3 kids, being dicks for mere minutes get all this police time meanwhile kids the same age are fucking about on electric scooters selling drugs in many ares with no coppers in sight to deal with it and the adults using them for this.

priorities are fucked up, this is a slap on tje wrists and told to behave matter, not a charge sheet and wasting the courts time

And sending out emails to fans attending the Derby asking for respect. Ffs

I wonder if any of the thousands of Celtic supporters chanting " Lizzie's in a box" got arrested or banned after the Queen passed away. I very much doubt it, but it's the pathetic email sent out to the fans attending the Derby which has pissed me off. Look back at the 50th Munich anniversary and you'll see how City fans behaved at that, absolutely impeccable. We're really hopeless with our own fans at times

Welcome to Braverman’s new Public Order Act.

It doesn’t just stop the people you want arresting. It’s everyone.
