Exactly. Why the fuck was he even invited? The guy isn't even a football fan. He used football (playing the ignorant Yank) as an opportunity to get a crowd.
 
This Ballon D'Or award is just the World Cup's end of tournament award ceremony all over again, isn't it?

Martinez winning the goalkeeper award, yet he's not even the best goalkeeper playing in England.
 
Messi is without doubt the best player to play the beautiful game but come on,what was all that about.
Yes he fulfilled his ambition to win the World Cup but he mostly he walked around the pitch & let Alverez do all the hard work.
As for the domestic league, well there wasn't much to say about that.

This award is for a calendar year I can't think of anything Messi has done in 2023. Nothing. Or is it from September 22 to September 23 ?

It would seem Messi won this on a few matches in December. A competition Haaland is unlikely to ever play in. Yet I read that Alvarez was the star for Argentina.

My only surprise was that Ronaldo didnt finish second.

apparently the qualification period has been rejigged to last season instead of the calendar year.
 
It was a great night for City though. 8 players there (9 with Gundo), hanging out together in sharp suits, more than twice of any other club. Haaland won one award, got to see all his goals again, give a speech. The club winning team of the year, Ferran getting to speak. While Laporta and others have to watch from the stands. Haaland finishing 2nd, with most knowing he really deserved it. Lots of spotlight, big event, other stars there, 5 of them sat in the front row. They would have loved it. Hopefully just makes Haaland even hungrier now.
 
Ive said it before and ive said it again, they have given it to messi because the narrative is that he won the world cup, the reality is that martinez won them the world cup.

Messi is a fantastic player but he also has fantastic pr. He knows damn well that he didnt deserve it and was only given it for sentimentality purposes.
 
It's not quite as bad as that time Giggs won PFA POTY for playing a bit-part in the rags finishing second and getting to the quarter finals of the CL (they'd snatch your hands off for that nowadays, to be fair). But it's still pretty bad.
 
Haaland should of won it, I don't like the argument even said by Pep that its not bad as Haaland cant win everything to early. He just lost it to a guy who has won 8, their is no reason to believe Haaland would lose his hunger. With the likes of Mbappe and Bellingham around their so no guarantee Haaland wins it in the future.
 
Just home from work (night shift) and caught BBC Breakfast sports news.
Jude Bellingham wins young Ballon d'Or, with Lionel Messi winning the main award, "with Manchester City's Erling Haaland coming 2nd, and Kylian Mbappe 3rd".
So not much for English football then !
No mention of the 'Team of the Year' !

Same here jim were did I mention otherwise lol, I just said if I was a player I'd prefer a world cup winners medal than a champions league one.

Last year Benzama won it for winning la Liga & CL. Haaland just unlucky that this was a World Cup year. Having said that, all Messi did was win a handful of games (one on a penalty shoot out). Haaland’s achievements go way beyond that. But he had a lot of involvement last night as did OUR GREAT CLUB.

Ballon D'or team of Year, 5 players in top 10, prolific scorer and young world star 2nd & wins striker award.

Minimal coverage on bbc football and no pictures.

Most blatant media blackout ever by those bitter journos at Salford.

This has got to be called out. It can not be disputed.
