John Cleese surprised at GB News showcase for ‘serial liar’ Boris Johnson

Comedian shares incredulity at former PM’s hire by news channel that will host Cleese’s own interview show

Cleese reposted an image of Boris Johnson to X, formerly Twitter, and wrote that he could not believe GB News had hired a “serial liar”.

I used to think Cleese was an erudite guy. I think I’ve grown to realise he just seems to enjoy being contrarian, so sometimes his views will happen to coincide with yours. That’s not been the case for about a decade now for me.

Reminds me of one of the most formative conversations of my teen years. When I had just started at university a friend took me aside and said “Just FYI, I get that you want to question people’s opinions, but if you try to play devils advocate on absolutely everything people are just going to think you’re a ****.”

He was absolutely right.

Haha, I was a member of the Philosophy Society so it’s a good shout but I was a Physics student at the time.

There wasn’t enough subjective and futile arguing in STEM, so I had to get my kicks somewhere.

It’s a common theme throughout the people that have these views. They all think they are the voice of the silent majority and bastions of common sense.

Nobody. He's been hired to cause outrage and ensure tweets etc by the outraged. I imagine a large slice of this channels viewing figures is composed of said outraged types looking to be outraged and offended.
