Advice needed re possible speeding ticket

Just had a letter from the Warwickshire police speeding on the M42 at 79mph from a bridge camera, pay the fine with 3 points or pay a slightly reduced fine and do the course

Pay a reduced fine and do the course, it's interesting but take your own Bourbons. Oh and BTW, it didn't work the first time so I went back a few years later.

They should make it part of the driving test.

Back in the day I had a job which involved travelling round the UK in AVIS hire cars and I ragged those hire cars within an inch of their lives………

To this day I can’t believe that I never got pulled for speeding or weaving between motorway lanes and often wonder why I behaved like that.

Got done for the first time in my life a few weeks ago 48mph on a 40mph road. Some devious police vehicle parked in a lay by.

I have been driving for nearly 60 years and will not be doing a speed awareness course as I would just lose my temper. It is nothing to do with road safety just the police getting their statistics improved and a money making racket.

Fuck them,
Smaller fine and no points isn't it?

Fuck them,

Not sure how it can be a money making racket, when you pay more of a fine if you don’t do it. Plus the cost of the courses themselves?

Although, you’ve done remarkably well to go nearly 60 years without a speeding fine.

70 in a 60 you might just about get away with.

Bearing in mind that if you car speedo is reading 70 then you’re probably really doing about 67.

Motorway speed cameras are dangerous IMO. Who wants to be behind someone on a motorway slamming on their brakes because of a fucking speed camera!?

I got done by one on the M62 a while back. 83 in a 70. Middle of the night, not another car on the road. Had to do a speeding course that cost me about 90 quid. Robbing cunts.

Fuck them,

I did a speed course a year or so ago and it wasn’t as annoying as I thought it would be.

The two blokes running it were actually really sound.

Guess it’s a bit like school, totally depends on how good a teacher you have.

I imagine if you had to do one run by a complete jobsworth wanker on a power trip it’d be a grim afternoon.

£10 less for speed awareness course and no points. Everybody I know who have been on the course say it is just a time wasting effort to tell you the bleeding obvious.
Clearly you haven't been on the course. It's highly informative and in general pretty good fun and a lot of what they tell or show you isn't as bleedin obvious as you think, remember that everyone there is in the same boat so you're not getting singled out or lectured too. If you go, go with an open mind, you'll learn from it. It's so good, I went twice !!!!

Do the speed awareness course. Saves you 3 points on your licence and a hike in your insurance premiums for the next 5 years. I did one a couple of years ago and found it useful to be honest. Learnt a few things as well. I think the majority are done on line now. I understand how you feel, but be pragmatic. It's the sensible thing to do.
This is the right answer
I took the fine and awareness course (79 mph in a 70) and approached it with an open mind
It was done on line and the course leader wasn't condescending
Yes, he said some things I didn't agree with, but the driving tips and refresh of how to recognise speed limits etc was really good

I’ve done three speeding courses ( there was an excuse for each one guv, honest ! )
and took something from each of them l They were informative and each time the instructors were amiable enough to make it interesting and fun .
I also did a motorway course which was patronising and really really shit . There was no back and forth on this one . The instructor could not be moved about anything .

seems like a no brainer too me. Remember your next insurance will go up as well if you get points
Yes I know but I would just have lost my temper on a speed awareness course having driven for so long without any offence. Too old now to bother about the cost I am just going to take it on the chin. I bought a new VW Polo in September 2021 and have not yet done 5k miles so very unlikely I will get many more offences if any.

West Yorkshire police sent me on one as well didn’t work either, they’re sending me on another one as soon as I send them the money. Think I’m getting it now avoid working in Yorkshire.

A6 Relief Road travelling from Poynton towards Bramhall yesterday and there was one of those yellow speed camera vans parked off the road on a little dirt track. The dual carriage way is down to 40 there, Christ knows why. No turn offs , no footpaths and certainly no houses around that stretch. Same thing happens almost on a daily basis on the A556 dual carriageway just past Northwich. No houses, turn offs etc. Just an easy money making exercise to pay off those brand new vans they use. Absolutely nothing to do with road safety on those two stretches.
