Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I think a neutral would have said, given the chances in the game, it was a fair result…score draw.

I disagree. I think Allison conned the ref for the foul on Dias “goal,” and I think Ederson didn’t have many saves to make, while Becker saved at least two dead certs from Foden & Haaland.

I felt that City dominated the play, while Liverpool were always a threat on the counter.

I think that the longer the game went on at 1-0, the likelier it looked that their pressure would pay off. The goal was a well-taken snapshot through bodies, but came from almost nothing.

On the day, their squad looked much, much stronger than ours, and their subs actually improved their chances of scoring. Almost any subs for us would have weakened the best side available on the day. THAT is a cause for concern.

While I absolutely detest Klopp and the majority of their players, their constant dedication to forward pressure is an attractive trait we only reveal when we go behind.

Far too often this season, we have grabbed a goal and then sat on it while knocking the ball about relatively aimlessly. We appear to have no “killer instinct” to put the game to bed while we are on top…and I say that even though we scored 10 goals in the previous 2 games!

When City score 3 or more, it nearly always follows the path of 1-0, pass, pass, pass for another half hour or more, then grab a 2nd in the late 60s-early 70s, then put some icing on the cake in the dying minutes.

Rarely is it 3-0 at HT, subs on to rest legs, score a couple more. Rarely.

With a fully fit squad, I think we are unbeatable. With a half fit squad full of knocks, and a few injuries, Pep’s love of a 16 man squad looks threadbare, at best!

I thank fuck for the finishing power of Haaland and the industry and nous of Rodri & Bernardo, because without those 3 in this team, we are a mid-table outfit, at best!

We need reinforcements and, while I hate to say it, Klopp’s “reload” of his midfield has some good players in it. Not necessarily “Pep players,” but good players for their game.

It’s time for City to put some of those record revenues to work in January and Summer ‘24, because we look very, very light at times.

Too many pundits have suggested this season was going to be a parade to the PL trophy, and you’d be bold to bet against us, but we looked well off the “walk the League” City yesterday, albeit against a strong Liverpool team.

Still got a few tough games to come in the next few weeks before we head to the World Cup, but I fear we are not going to be in nearly as good of shape as we were on Friday by the time your Christmas pudding has digested!

Here’s hoping I’m wrong!!!

Fair result in the end in my opinion.

The league have proper shafted us with this run of fixtures.

United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs.

All potential top 6 clubs.

They have done it again in February

United, Liverpool, Brighton, Arsenal.

I bet no other club will play a run of 4 or 5 games against top 6 opponents!

Hopefully we can get a win against Spurs then go on a run up to the Xmas period.

A lot right in that post. We are missing Gundo more than many realise. We didn't miss Kev so much in the past because of him in midfield. Add Kev into the mix and we went up another level. We have signed Nunez and Kovacic to fill the gap and both are underwhelming to say the least.

No Haaland, Rodri, Kev and Bernardo and we're bang average. I'd even say take Rodri out and we dip massively as results proved when he was suspended. Mind you all are world class players so any team would miss them. We need top class recruitment for this squad, especially in midfield and upfront. When I think we used to have Tevez, Aguero and Dzeko, now we have Haaland and Alvarez. If Haaland gets injured who's leading the line and scoring the goals? Same in midfield take out Kev and we have little creativity. Foden, Grealish and Doku don't chip in with enough goals, I'd probably add Bernardo to that list too.

We're still the team to beat at the moment but we need to get the next phase of recruitment right to stay there. We've spunked over 120 million on Nunez, Phillips and Kovacic and it looks like a waste of money at this time.

So far we've lost to Wolves and Arsenal and dropped points against Liverpool and Chelsea. To score four goals away at a poor Chelsea side and still not win was criminal. Newcastle thrashed them yesterday.

We're slow burners in the league until after Christmas let's hope we kick on again.

We played really well. But are too reliant on Haaland. Taking Mahrez and Gundogan out of this team equates to around 25 goals and they haven’t been replaced. Then think we haven’t got KDB either who is probably good for another 10 and I really think it’s a gap we need to address in Jan.
Would also like to see us sign an attacking midfielder, possibly try for Paqueta again, if he's let off these betting charges

Pep saying he didn't see the incident for the Dias disallowed goal. Admitting it seems strange.
This is the issue, we never kick off and make a fuss over decisions and so its all too easy for the officials to keep on screwing us. Would you give the goal and have Klopp and the media backlash for a month or rule it now and its all forgotten about by City

End of the day we didn’t get a he goal so it’s absolutely irrelevant talking about it . A draw was a said result considering we hung on in the second half and if they had a better finisher than Nunez they probably could have had two . ATM without kdb we are seriously lacking any creativity and also if Rodri gets injured we are struggling in midfield but hopefully when we get every player back we can push on .

Lots of ifs. IF Alverez had scored that sitter & Haaland scored another if his 3 chances & if Doku had made the right decision in the first half, we would have annihilated the dippers

Beaten up just because he cheered for a goal for another team?

Been to American Football games and dragged to Rugby games and opposing fans sit amongst each other and no trouble at all.

Was is it about football that makes them violent scumbags?
Football is innocent. They are violent scumbags as soon as they are released from the womb.

I despair, we would have still been top with a bit of luck tonight, as it stands, we are a point behind Arsenal, what is wrong with you? Not even halfway through the season, and some people here are talking like we are threatened with relegation.
Correct. I said at start of the season that if we're in touching distance after our trip to Saudi, then I'd be more than happy. After that we should have Super Kev and Johnny boy at full tilt and we all know we get serious after that period. Giving up 2 points late on again is disappointing, but if you can't win, then don't lose(especially to your enemies) Once we get these next 2 fixtures out of the way we've got a fair few favourable games coming up. Smash Chaz n Dave on Sunday and all will be Rosey in the garden again. Beat Villa and we'll be flying! And i think we will. Keep the faith blues, we're not treble winners for nothing.

City looked a bit flat today, still had enough chances to kill the game off, you really do need a second goal to finish off this Liverpool team as you know they can come back to punish you, this season shows that with the amount of times they have come back from a goal down to score and usually win.
I like Doku but he’s begining to look a bit of a one trick pony by constantly sprinting forward.. stopping then coming back inside and full backs will soon be on to that, he really needs to up his end product too but he’s still young enough so should improve.
Important thing was not to get beat, John Stones looks a better fit in midfield too for these games.
He might be a one-trick pony but a one-trick pony that keeps getting the better of any full back he has to face. And it's a testament to his trickery and value that the Dippers had two, and sometimes three on him!

I totally agree. They are 90% a fucking horrible, weird, cult like bunch. But in south stand 3 just after they had scored, I was ashamed to be a city fan. Two dipper fans stupidly were in our end and got rumbled. They weren't celebrating or being dicks. When they were ‘persuaded’ to leave, on there way out they were attacked, punched, kicked and thrown down the steepest stairs in word football. Cowards kicking fuck out of them as they tried to get out. It was like a pack of fucking monkey’s. There was blood on the stairs and in the block entrance/exit when we left. Totally uncalled for and made us look every bit as bad as we think they are. Made me realise we are as bad as them, which I never thought I’d EVER say. It made the rest of the game irrelevant for me and has stayed with me all night. I’m so sick of everything about this wank country. I’m sure the hundreds of kids sitting around us would have learnt so much. Well done dick heads.
What a truly sorry example of the society we live in that this cowardly assault doesn’t appear to have been reported in the press and yet if we’d sung a song that hurt somebody’s feelings, which isn’t even about the thing that those being offended say it is, then the media would have been all over it.

Being offended is now clearly deemed in some quarters to be worse than being punched, kicked and thrown down some stairs.
