He’s always been a player I’ve admired so I’m definitely biased but I don’t see how people think he’s a total failure. He’s had games where he has been the 2/3 in MOTM voting (on this forum). Obviously against Chelsea he had a f-up and was solely responsible for that goal, but I don’t get the narrative that he’s letting up goals everytime he’s on the pitch. Yes, he could be better. Yes, he’s inconsistent. But I don’t feel like he’s having problems that are that much worse than the other defenders.

Also I don’t understand why people think he isn’t criticized. I feel like other than Grealish he’s probably the most criticized player. Maybe not here but in other social media and other forums he gets a lot of crap.

Massive overreaction. He is 21 and just had a bad day at the office. He has been excellent in pretty much any other game. His competition, Ake, came on for 5 minutes and was responsible for their 3rd goal. Just like Gvardiol, Ake is a wonderful player, and he isn't any faster than Gvardiol.

He wasn't. Dias and Walker were also responsible. Having said that, of course he was also to blame.

Great player in the making…in the middle of the park as a CB or defensive midfielder, just not on the left hand side for now, it could ruin his confidence.

Give it a rest on Gvardiol ffs. He’s 21 in a new league and has adapted well. Yes we’re shipping goals and he probably is due to have a couple of games on the bench but so did Laporte. So did Ake. Give him some time to adjust and you’ll see why we spent what we did on him.

I never hate on any of our players I don’t get the need to be hatting I follow my team through good and bad, but what I don’t understand is I know he’s a lot younger and maybe does have time to grow but is he as good as or better than Laporte? I think we’ve kinda of gone side ways or down with this signing, but hopefully he will come good and prove me wrong, also I think ake is proven and should be starting in front of him for now

I like him a lot, he’s tenacious and really good on the ball with both feet - he’s just a bit inconsistent defensively (understandable given his age) which isn’t ideal when we can’t keep a clean sheet.

A bit different to Ake who I’m a huge fan of, since you know exactly what you’re going to get from him - Gvardiol will be a great signing for us in time, just needs to be given time given his age and the fact it’s his first season.

Taken off and Ake fucked up for the 3rd goal, as did walker. Dias fucking shite across the last 5 games.

How does a 6'1 LB only win 50% of his aerial duels?... Walker and Ake at around 75%, and both are smaller.
Also he rarely stops crosses and leaves a lot of space behind him, gets sucked in and doesn't have the pace to recover.
Lad has potential to be as good as say Laporte(at cb)..But as a LB I'm not seeing it.
Not a good look as a defender when you're hauled off in an attempt to maintain the lead.
I want to see him centrally, where has Pep's hard on for a left footer sweeping the ball out wide gone?

21 years old playing in a new league, not playing in his preferred position. Sometimes people do surprise you how quick they are to give up on them.

If we wanted someone to play LB we should have signed a LB. His passing is really good although the lack of pace is a worry. Think we need to see him playing CB.

Also, I know he wasn’t good today but I’m unclear how his actions led to any of their goals. (I do feel like his play was pretty instrumental in our 2nd).
