Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I used to say that Peps tactics had been found out, but he seemed to be able to alter and adjust things to get the best out of our players.

Now it seems like that isn't possible. How we have 4 of the best defenders in the world and the best striker in the world, but yet still look so shaky at the back and awful going forward is crazy.

Losing Gundogan was crazy, replacing him with Kovacic is criminal.

If this continues to the end of the season I can see people becoming disillusioned with Pep. I hope he can get us out of the slump
Pep is a great manager but he isn’t a miracle worker. He still needs the tools to do his job. As he always says the players are what makes a manager and right now the players we have aren’t as good as they where 2 seasons back

Winter has come in all its soul-freezing beauty. Pep has just managed the worst game of his coaching career. I don't remember anybody turning us into marmalade for the past 12 years like Villa tonight. Two shots in the whole game, and that was one attack of 10 seconds, no corners, nothing. If our U21 played tonight they would not be turned over like supposedly the best team in the world. Where the feck do we go from here?!?!?

Cant help but think that Pep gambled tonight - didn’t work as you can’t afford to go into a game like that with only one midfielder, and play him wide right.

We had decent pockets of composed play but yet again nowhere near our usual levels of control.

Unforgivable the number of times we failed to clear our lines, gave Villa all the time in the world all over the pitch but especially in the final third. It’s like we’ve forgotten how to jockey / hold up a player or make a fucking tackle - we’ve got players running at speed towards the man in possession and we just sell ourselves time after time and give them an easy overload.

Pep needs a rethink - Gvardiol will be great in time but not a full back and too many errors at the moment.

Akanji isn’t the answer moving into midfield - he was ponderous tonight.

Get back to basics and give ourselves a chance.

The most damming indictment of tonight was that at 80 mins I just didn’t feel we’d even create a chance let alone score.

Rough run, we need to dust ourselves down and get 3 points on Sunday by hook or by crook, start the process of finding some form.

Every player gets a four or less out of 10 for this game. Insipid, abject, impotent just about sums it up, a total lack of cohesion, zero creativity, shit backwards passing 90% of the time, offside continually. Just a massive fuck up of a performance where we did absolutely nothing right.

Can honestly say tonight we got schooled by a villa side from start to finish who without doubt wanted it. We were all over the show. some really bad performances tonight. The 3 he took off especially. Nowt good to say. it’s showing how much we miss the players we let go, gundo comes to my mind first. Bad day at the office, we’re on a really bad run of form. However, we should have won the last 3 But our finishing is shite.

Was huge fan of Gvardiol, but he is dogsh.t in defence, as was rest of the team in every area of the pitch...worst city performance under Pep ever, need to change things immediately.
To be fair the defence was badly let down by the midfield which was piss weak, especially without Rodri.

Absolutely hammered by a better team no complaints we look miles off closing players down
Congratulations Aston Villa outstanding

Feels like rock bottom(and I dont mean the match thread).

Laboured, slow, rubbish passing, toothless, players looking lost, the absolute opposite of a Pep team.

Writing was on the wall before a ball was kicked, it just felt like everyone needs to clear the air about everything that is happening at the club.

Pep, players and the club as a whole need to get all this shit thats going on off field and sling it well and truly behind them, and dont get caught up in the media cesspit.

There is still time for this season, the teams above and around us are no great shakes.

Wouldnt surprise me if we kicked on from here, go and win that world club thing and take it from there.

Fck negativity, thats the City I followed for years through Pearce and lower divs etc, typical City win things now.

Come march this game will be looked back on as a turning point in our season.

Well done Villa fully deserved. Been a long time since I saw a team completely outplay us. We don’t look the city of the last few years these days
spot on, a absolut utter shite performance , bet pep regrets coming out with , we will win the title , ffs. like watching a prem team playing a non leauge team. disgrace

What is depressing is we don't seem to know what to do when we have the ball on the edge of the opponents box. We seem to always be looking to get around the back. Every team knows how we play. In the end we end up passing it back. For God's sake have a go and see what opportunities develop. We need to get Haaland more involved.

WOW, Not a lot more to say really
the whole shape and setup from the kick-off was off and there was only going to be one winner and it was not City.
I said at the weekend the squad need boosting with players who can come on a do the job when our best players are out injured or banned,

We are carrying far too many players who are not in Pep's plans or good enough to come on from the bench
Phillips must be sold because he clearly is not in Pep's plans, Fresh faces in the winter window and the summer window and we go again next season, The title is gone forget the run-in as we have done before,

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE City and Pep sign a fucking left-back or two and sell the Bench warmers
