Clayton Hall, which is just near the Etihad, was the home of the Byron family. The same family that produced Lord Byron, the famous poet. However, long before he was born the family had sold it and moved to Newstead Abbey, near Nottingham.

Clayton Hall came into the possession of Humphrey Chetham, the same guy who created Chetham's Hospital School. As it used to be called. And if you nip into the Cathedral, you will find his statue.

Clayton Hall is open some weekends, so you might like to take a butcher's before a City match. It's what you call small but interesting.

Looks like he escaped the cult and now finds himself soon to be inheriting his elderly grandmother’s estate. Not a bad result.

What's really interesting is that having lived until recently in Oldham for the last 30 years I had no prior knowledge of this, if he'd had been from an upper/higher middle class southern family I'd guess I'd have know all about it.
