European Super League | ECJ rule that UEFA and FIFA acted unlawfully in blocking Super League (p 29)

not even portuguese clubs are in, turkish are now being rumored, along with napoli, olympique de marseille and lyon. the youngins are going to go nuts for those hip clubs

I don't understand the antipathy towards a different structure for European football on this forum. Surely of all football fanbases we should be the one that is all for it?

If it wasn't so poorly planned and rushed out when it was, and the clubs were seen to be consulting the stakeholders (including fans) before announcing their intentions there wouldn't have been such a furore.

What is the problem with power being taken away from the PL, UEFA and FIFA and the clubs and hopefully the fans having more say about how the competitions were organised, who had the rights to show them on TV etc? In principle I'd be all for it and the idea of higher quality matches really appeals. Even most CL games are boring to watch these days. UEFA's answer to that seems to be to have even more of them.

I wouldn't miss playing teams who just put 10 behind the ball every week and that would hopefully change if we played higher quality opposition on a more regular basis.
You’ll catch a few.

I was under the impression that it wouldnt be a closed shop. Yes if that was the case i would be shite. But i was led to believe it wasnt

Could you latch on to another team do you think?
The proposals state that it is not a closed shop. No one would support a format with no qualification process or promotion and relegation. If they try to create a closed shop it will never succeed.

Some of the statements I've heard today are laughable especially the one from the government and the introduction of the independent commission
They came out today and said the fans will always have a voice and that's why we brought a ruling in regarding joining a breakaway competition when they protested 2 years ago and clubs can't join
Well what if the fans start warming to the idea of the super league? Will they listen to them and change there ruling ? Not a fucking chance

The Government will block any attempt by Premier League football clubs to join a European Super League after EU courts gave the plans the green light on Thursday.
The European Court of Justice ruled that Fifa and Uefa acted unlawfully by blocking the breakaway league, which has paved the way for some of the biggest clubs in Europe to set up their own big money tournament.
But in a statement from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, ministers have warned that British clubs will be prevented from joining any such league under forthcoming legislation, the Football Governance Bill.
A spokesman for the department highlighted the Governement’s “decisive action” in preventing the creation of a super league back in 2021, adding the new bill will “stop clubs from joining any similar breakaway league in the future”.
That statement from the Government, like so many, is total nonsense. It would be open to challenge just like the crazy Rwanda policy. I don't disagree with the sentiment though. City could leave the PL and play anywhere that would have them but it would be a crazy move.

Sport is a special case.
As various attempt in various nations legal systems (e.g. Belgium) to Football "Fair" Play proved

For arguments sake lets say every club was up for joining the super league.

in theory could the Star league not end up being half full of Prem teams in a number of years?

We should start making statements which infer we are interested in this just to get the PL confused. But not us we immediately issue an official statement of total disassociation with the whole thing. Why do we do this?. Either way the PL must be completely fucked up now. The whole game is being totally revolutionised the investment of the Saudi league internally overnight plus the emerging’new’ power bases I.e. us not to mention Girona has caught the old guard out, the PL is as archaic as the FA both lost in time one still pines for the good old days of muddy pitches leather caseys and players getting the bus to the game and the other fell into the 1992 black hole and has all but imploded

Up till a few years ago I was the biggest conservative (not Tory) as far as protecting tradition etc etc but the UEFA actions then the bollocks from PL and the cartel behind both quangos clearly fuelled by little no marks in the media have changed my outlook

I say fuck em …… let’s go for it….. I’m close to sacking going to games recently never thought it would come to this after setting foot in Maine Road that Saturday afternoon watching Nelly get his hat trick against Leyton Orient but these twats have all but broken my spirit.

This isn’t based on arrogance or anything else but I’m 66 tomorrow and the idea of our next game being against a Brazilian team in a global tournament to win the World Club Cup on my birthday is far more appealing than playing Brentford in the PL ffs….. loads of mates from Stalybridge and Ashton are having the time of their lives watching us this week over there like an idiot I chose to watch us play Palace at home and then have to put up with us being slated by all and sundry hitting headlines across all media sources for drawing a game followed by a news blackout during and after cruising through the World Club semi finals

I personally think. We are a English club and we play in England. The only time we don't play in England is when we play in the Champions League/Europa League/Conference League etc (Unless we're at home).

I always look forward to the games like Man United, Liverpool (Yes I hate United and Liverpool but it gives you passion and excitement when we beat them), Leeds, Everton, Burnley and other nearby clubs. Because it feels like home and we have a connection to these teams and places and we develop the rivalries with these clubs through our fans who often work with people that support their rival clubs. And you develop the banter and fun that it brings to your workplace and personal life. You sometimes have to take the embarrassment but also the pride and delight that comes with it.

Playing Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and the other English teams will not be the same excitement and enjoyment because we have no connection especially from our fans because the are foreign teams and the atmospheres are always dull and boring.

The games might be better in terms of quality because they are the best footballers in the world but its never the same for our fans. The fans should always come first. Yes owners do want to make money as they have expenses to pay for but it shouldn't come at the cost of alienating real supporters.

I would find City vs Bournemouth more better than this Super League rubbish. I hope our owners don't reconsider this as it won't feel like the City that I fell in love with and grew up with.
