As did Grealish in the cup final then. He Jumped (for a header) with no regard for where the ball would hit him by your logic!

Of course they had no regard for that. As their intent was to header (grealish) and block (onana). Was Onana suppose to know Ake would slice his shot directly upwards by the powers of telepathy?
At what point did I mention the Grealish incident. We are talking about the incident in this game.
You don't think it's a penalty, fine, I do, also fine.
Was Onana supposed to know Ake would slice his shot, but telepathy or other means, no, but he should know that if his arms are sticking out/up and the ball hits one of them whilst travelling towards the goal, it likely to be a penalty in the current game.

Amazed anyone thinks that should be a
Penalty. As Grealish’ shouldn't have been in the cup final

Pretty much every ex pro and both managers tonight are with me.

PGMOL are with you!!

I know which camp id rather be in….
I'm conflicted with it. If his hand was a bit lower then I'd agree, but I think it was high enough that it was the right call.

It will be fine. A letter will go out and an apology made.
Probably another rule change too.

Even though it was a penalty. A clear penalty.

Everton pressed us really well to be fair. They made it difficult for us.
I thought so, we started OK for 15 minutes and Pickford got lucky with his leg from Alvarez effort, then they pressed us and we (as we often do) panicked when we kept giving the ball away. As per normal, other teams first chance results in a goal, and were actually lucky to go in at 1-0.

Pep sorted it out for the second half, and we won easily in the end.

Foden sensational second half. What a talent we’ve got at our club. Play him in the middle all day long
It has been obvious to me for ages that he should play in the middle but is Pep convinced? If his last two performances don’t persuade nothing will.
The waistcoat ……..?

I had no idea there was a controversy surrounding the penalty. Anyone that thinks that wasn’t a penalty is a fucking moron.
There isn't a controversy surrounding the penalty, by the current rules it's a clear penalty, that bit can't really be argued, and none of the people who spoke about it tonight said otherwise (well maybe Dyche, but I never understand his stupid riddles, so who knows ?).

The only controversy is with the rules, if a shot hits an arm a yard away, when there was clearly no intention to handball, just block, should it be handball ? The problem is, in one game it's given, and in another it isn't. The referee tonight didn't give it (don't think he saw it), but the linesman did, and indicated with his flag "penalty", don't know if var got involved to check, that wasn't made clear on the coverage I watched.

Agree about Kovacic. We look much better with him than without him imo
Nice to see the player who has now slotted back in after injury ,regain his sharpness and attract plaudits.
Some of the early season comments about him were embarrassing..along the lines of why have we signed him/ he adds nothing to our team/ etc
A bit of patience is always need with any new player slotting into our midfield,imo...

I thought it was going to be another one of those days! We totally bossed the opening stages, then had a crazy two minutes littered with mistake after mistake, & against the run of play, we collapse defensively & allow Everton to take the lead.

Thankfully, we kept our heads & ploughed on. Everton were up for it at this point, & we were struggling to match them physically, until after the break in play for Stones' injury.

The break did us a favour, as we stabilised ourselves for the balance of the half, albeit we've now lost John to yet another injury. I noticed his ankle flexing both ways in the challenge & it looked like ligament damage to me. Hope he's back very soon.

We were far better in midfield when Kovacic came on. As I keep saying with Nunes, he just seems to lack that extra something that all the top players have, which was characterised by him missing an open goal early in the match, being robbed of possession, & attempting passes at crucial points which sufficiently failed to find a player.

Walker had a couple of shaky moments, & needs to recover his very best form ASAP.

Jack had another good game. Rodri & Bernardo illuminated the match like a pair of Iberian beacons.

Julian's energy is better suited to being a No 9, who can also drop deep as a creative No 10 & can press, harry & defend from the front. He had my heart in my mouth with his penalty that Pickford got a foot to. For now I'd rather one from Julian or Erling, so we have an extra specialist midfielder playing.

My MoTM has to be Foden. He was absolutely brilliant & showcased several WOW moments & touches as he ripped up the midfield & attack. His goal was brilliantly taken, with a turn of sheer skill & a shot of equal power & accuracy to open our account.

Also, what a brilliantly improvised goal by Bernardo, to seal the deal! He was being fouled by the defender, but managed to hold him off, as he steadied himself & curled an absolute beauty into the far corner, for what was essentially the winner which killed off the spirited Scousers.

We fully deserved the victory, & for big stretches of the match we showed our true Manchester City level. Hopefully our form will continue to improve & we can start pressuring those ahead of us in the league.

It's been a good ten days for the English, European & World Champions. I'm glad Phil said Pep told the squad it's not enough to just be proud of being World Champions, but that we need to start acting & playing like World Champions too!

That's the mindset of a winner who's plotting how to remain at the very top for the foreseeable future, at the club he's spent most of his career at.

I get the rest of Europe wishing that Pep would fuck off & give everyone else a chance, but it seriously pisses me off when City fans whip out their Mystic Meg crystal balls & join in the Baldy leaving predictions.

As things stand Guardiola's showing zero signs of wanting to depart Manchester, so please let's just embrace this football genius as he leads us through Manchester City's golden age. )(

He's certainly wasted out wide. What a player he is now. Strong quick fast, technically magnificent. So proud of our Phil.
Said to my mate, reminded me of Michael Johnson, he said “the new Colin Bell”, no, “the Michael Johnson who skipped over hurdles like Phil does” he's realising his talent now, absolutely terrific as was Bernie and most of the team, got our Mojo back tonight.

Coming back from 1-0 down away from home without any of Haaland, Kevin, Stones, or Dias. Huge show of character.

Foden, Alvarez, Grealish and Bernardo can go to bed proud of themselves tonight. All the lads can tbh, but them four especially.
I thought Kyle was brilliant tonight

Gosh. 50 pages, half of them people complaining about how much of the post match punditry was talking about the penalty - or posts talking about the penalty.

First half wasn't that dreadful until Rodri & Akanji fuck up and Bernardo overcommitting on the line. Profligate if any, but not bad, should've been 3 nil. Gutted for Stonesy.
Second half what a great come back. Had the Toffees under siege, pressing high and finally swallowed them.

New book first chapter. Istree makers.
