Birmingham City Thread - 2023/24

Tbf, Wrexham is a bit different, they are not business men, who are just in it to make money. It's also probably unfair to say they are using Wrexham as a "toy".... as so far they seem pretty good owners from the outside.
I don't think I accused Reynolds and McElhenney of using Wrexham as a toy. And they're certainly not using the club as their personal ATM machine. Unlike some of their compatriots! Let's be honest; if they were looking to make serious money out of football, they're not going to do it at the Racecourse Ground, are they? As you said, they seem decent enough people. Of course, the publicity they've got for this venture (at least on this side of the pond) is welcome, I'm sure. But yeah, they seem to have got the place buzzing now. And the club are flying at the moment; second in League 2, 4 pts behind Stockport, with a game in hand.

Sorry Jim, wasn't implying you had accused them of anything ;)
Just saying compared to other American owners they "seem" quite decent and trustworthy, so far.

Spot on. Can't really see them morphing into Boehly/Glazer type blokes. And they do seem to be genuinely enjoying the experience at the moment. I guess the test will be when they hit a rocky patch.

I think Wrexham could quite easily get to the Championship (although not with Phil Parkinson as manager, they concede far too many goals for a team at the top of the table)

Once they get to there though with the money losses expected and up to 10 teams receiving failure payments you need to be either really lucky and your planets align, or have very deep pockets.

Regarding Villa & Randy Lerner I think they were even worse under Tony Xia, with rumours of him bringing suitcases of cash into the country to keep them going.

If rumours are to be believed the 2019 Play Off Final between Aston Villa & Derby County was shit or bust with the loser being in serious trouble. Which proved so for Derby under Mel Morris.

Canadian-American. He's a citizen of both countries.
He was born in Canada so he's Canadian and has often said he's Canadian. He has a US passport and is a US citizen as well. People were saying he's American when criticising American owners of football clubs. I have citizenship in Paraguay but I'm English. I could get a passport but there's no need.

Is Laporte French or French-Spanish?

It's not really relevant to the point I was making. People were criticising American football owners and mentioned Ryan Reynolds being a good American owner. I said he was Canadian, born in Canada, you said he was a citizen of both countries, which are both correct.

Laporte is born in France and chose to play for Spain because Enrique convinced him to make the switch because he wasn't being chosen by Deschamps. He has dual citizenship. I think he's French with a Spanish passport. You would have to ask Laporte whether he was French or French-Spanish or even Spanish. Ryan Reynolds has, as far as I know, never said he was American but often says his Canadian upbringing has given him advantages in Hollywood. I suppose it's the choice of the individual.

Birmingham draw at home to the mighty Bristol City and the BBC report it as Birmingham hold the in form Bristol City to a draw... Rooney is ruining his chances of taking over at the Rags if he keeps this up. What is it now 9 points from 42.

Rooney is fucking clueless, disastrous appointment by Birmingham ..
Typical yanks. Didn't hire on merit, in fact the bloke who was there was doing a decent job. Rooney was hired only for his name and they thought that would generate a lot of interest in the club, which it hasn't.

Yanks really can't seem to grasp that our sporting culture is nothing like theirs.
