Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 32 - threespires - Could have been a Contender (pg 472)

Ocean Deep - Greenleaf

For all you old rockers. A song from one of a handful of 'stoner metal' bands from a place with a surprisngly strong 'desert rock' scene - Sweden.

This album nearly got put up for review in the other thread, but it was maybe just a touch too 'basic'. A strong song and band in general though.

I am going to break from convention, and put forward a song that doesn't mention water, doesn't have it in the title, or even in the band name. But, it does very much make me feel and think of water, when listening to it. Honestly, the number of times I have switched off and gazed at an imaginary horizon, or felt like I am on water, while listening to it. And it has a bit of a quiet stillness, a gentle flow, and the opening of floodgates.

Horizontigo - Lau

It is not a first impressions song. Does take a bit of time, and getting to know a bit before it can be liked. It is one of my favourite songs, ever. Not one that can be rushed, needs a bit of effort and time, but imo gives back what is put into it.

These guys opening for My Morning Jacket was quite the double bill. Both have enough water to make this playlist.

Now if you find yourself falling apart...

Band of Horses – "Great Salt Lake"

Both good choices. Interesting who opened for who there. I would imagine more people would know BOH over MMJ, at least in the UK.

Back to 'eavy today after a little break of softyness.

The snows of banquo iv - Wo Fat

Like most of our season, a song of two halves. Was going to go with their Risin' River song which would probably have gone down better here, having that bluesey riff folk seem to like. But I like this song more myself, and it is more recent.

edit @GornikDaze , you should definitely give these a go, willing to bet you'd nod along approvingly.

I do intend to so a belated summary of the last playlist, which ended at an unfortunate busy Christmas day. Once we are into the second week of listening.

Rob was the only one sensible enough to get his in early. The discussion, takeaways and impressions is a part of it I enjoy as much as the listening, and hopefully we don't lose that on the thread.

Yes, this is where threads like this work - for me, the feedback is an all-important part of the whole exercise. Throwing up YouTube videos and then moving on to the next song doesn't work for me.
