Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I’d just like to applaud Oscar Bobb, not only for scoring a fantastic first premier league goal,
But also how he stayed on his feet after Trippier’s tackle, then to round the keeper with some outstanding footwork to score. lesser players would’ve gone down, & have done, with an easier route to goal. Yes Jota, Fernandes I’m talking to you.
If the refs are instructing teams on the rules next season, they need to be getting a package together on “fouls in the box” Oscar Bobb’s goal being the gold standard to aim for, & the how not to example “going down as if shot by a sniper” when a defender / keeper touches a stray thread from your sock.
I thought simulation was a bookable offence?

What an important win for us.

Bobb is such an amazing guy, I thought that a lot of others would have taken a penalty. That assist was perfect, the touch from Bobb, no words needed. I think everybody was great yesterday, it was not about 1,2,3 guys, it was a very good team performance.

Just one thing I didn‘t understand: the second goal by Gordon, if Walker would immediately sprint in the space, when Gordon gets the ball, the situation would be completely different.

Hopefully we will take the break sensible and will have great next months. Stay behind them, we really have such a great team, the atmosphere will be huge in the final months. CTID

Noticed on the Match of the day highlights, Bernardo have a go at the Newcastle bench after our winner, until Pep held him back.
Wonder if anything was said previously or if Bernardo was on the wind up. Either way, love the guy.

He’s the biggest Bert this side of Sesame Street.

If Garnacho has scored that third goal we'd never hear the end of it. Bobb's footwork barely got a mention

Fantastic pass from Kdb but Bobb had a lot to do taking his marker and then the keeper out of the game. Pure instinct, let’s see if he can kick on even more in the coking weeks.

Great result in the end. Great 2nd half performance. Wide open at the back though in the 1st half. Especially on Walkers side, which I thought Newcastle targeted on purpose and it paid off with 2 goals, but thankfully not with a draw or a defeat.

I noticed that too. Pep didn't hold him back he shoved him back in the middle of jumping up and down.

Agree about Wlaker part, he makes so many strange decisions on defence and just starts to chase down players after letting them get near the penalty area, don´t get most of the time why he does that. Gordon has much less impact 25 metres from goal than 15

I actually thought we were pretty close to our best for about 90% of the game but just have some stupid brainfarts in us at the moment.
If yer look at the stats of any of our games and ask someone to suggest an appropriate scoreline that would match the stats I think six or seven to one would fit nicely. Statistically, NUFC took one hammering, yes Jackie Milburn, your lads took one helluva beating. Hoolihaaaaan misses a sitter, goalie saves three or four, couple of scrambles in the NUFC goal area, and there's the seventh by Oscar! Although we did get a couple of scrambles in our area.

A tremendous result for us, not just the three points, but the mental boost from coming from behind and knowledge we can do it - the third time this season. And we played some really good football.
But this trend of conceding goals out of thin air and psychological mini collapses in the game are extremely worrying, really really worrying. The look of utter dejection on Rodri's face after their second was really telling.
Pep needs to ditch Guardiol/Doku combo on the left for good, it is just creating so many problems for us, particularly yesterday when he decided to push Doku in the MF.
Walker was actually great pushing and staying forward not allowing Gordon to get running into acres of space, but that defending 1-on-1 yesterday...huh what can be said, hopefully it was one off. There is replay of their second goal, a camera from behind Newcastle goal, Gordon had already recieved the ball and Kyyle was literally jogging back. Never seen that shit before!!!!

As good as the ball was, having watched it about 45 times, it is simply sensational what Bobb does with it. Fucking hell.
Totally agree. Bobb was so composed and his close control is incredible.
When Bernie scored our first with an indescribable piece of skill I thought that City would go on to win quite comfortably, such was the flow of the game at that time.
Newcastle fought back though, scoring 2 very similar goals in quick succession, to go in ahead at half time.
In the second half we absolutely dominated and did everything bar score. At that time I would have taken a draw.
Then Kev came on and within a short space of time slotted in a superb equaliser.
Game on!
So close to the end of the match now and on came Oscar Bobb. Could he be the matchwinner? Could he?
Kev played a pinpoint accurate pass to Bobb who really shouldn't have been able to score from the position he was in, but he did it, evading all attempts by the Newcastle players desperately trying to stop him (by any means) in the process.
Oscar Bobb had an Aguerrrroo moment and never more welcome.
Happy days!
