I would be happy with that, but only assuming his legal case is closed. I am glad to see West Ham is paying Kalvin's wages and a bonus, so hopefully, he will do well there, and in the summer, we can do a Kalvin + cash deal for Paqueta.

We definitely should imo, but we definitely won’t imo
Squad is already too thin and with Stonesy having one of his injury prone seasons, the risk is we’re going to overplay Rodri into ineffective exhaustion or a serious injury
The one player in the squad we most need serious back up for.

It's a decent move for him if he gets the games and we can flog him for a good price off the back of it. However, is he going to play for them? They've got alvarez, jwp,soucek and paqueta for their 3 man midfield amongst others. I wouldn't think he's guaranteed to play every week he's fit there and if that's not the case, what's the point?

He hasn't featured but we've been crying out for him, or a version of him that Pep trusts. we failed to win every game Rodri was unavailable so that tells me we absolutely need a replacement. Don't believe we will get one though, and I think it will cost us.

We still need cover for Rodri because as sure as night and day he will be sent off before season ends and then we are in trouble especially with stones still being out . Like to see kova get stuck in abit more though .

Yeah

Although the truth is the backup wouldn't be that close to Rodri's level, firstly because who is? And if anyone is, they'd be a starter and main player elsewhere.

But they don't need to be elite, they need to be very suitable for our game with the right skill set to do the job.

I don't think the fact Phillips hardly played is a reflection on his overall ability as a footballer. I think Pep just sussed out very quickly that he doesn't fit into the way we play and that happens, there's a lot of very good players that don't fit certain teams. We clearly misjudged his ability to do what we needed from him in our system.

That's why I dont think a backup for Rodri has to be necessary much better than Phillips in terms of overall levels as a player, just a lot more suitable to that role and fit in our system when required. If we do actively look at a Rodri backup, that's what the club needs to get right next time.
