Easily the best manager Liverpool have had since Paisley. Yes, I know very well that he doesn't have anywhere near Paisley's track record in terms of trophies accumulated. He had the misfortune to run into a juggernaut called Pep + a juggernaut called City. Otherwise, would have won a lot more. Still didn't do too badly. Bit of a moaner (but actually he said such ridiculous things at times that he made the world laugh at him — the grass reference being one for the ages), but I've never disliked him as many do on here. In fact, if we hadn't got Pep, he would have been easily my preferred alternative.
Astonished by this news. Thought he'd be there for years and years.
Good news for us. Now get this foolishness of the trumped-up charges off our back, and sign Pep up for until he's in his dotage. Then my cup will runneth over…

that will be a big boost for Liverpool in motivation for this season
Impossible to know which way it will spin. Often, these announcements lead to a drop-off in form. Have a look at United's results when Ferguson announced he was retiring early on in the 2001-02. He later reversed that decision and results picked up.

On the flip side, when Heynckes announced he was leaving Bayern they went on to win the treble.
