Brianna Ghey murder guilty verdicts

There’s intent to kill with murders and a huge number of victims knew their killer(s).

I’m not a parent so I can’t understand the pain but I still don’t think I’d want them dead. Suffering in prison seems a more fitting punishment.

I’d guess a sizeable majority of convicted murderers never set out with a premeditation to kill.

I inadvertently crossed paths with one of his killers whilst he was living under a false identity. I won't go into detail, but I only found out afterwards when he was 'outed' and moved.

I believe one of them is back in prison for 'other' offences, although not sure how true this is.
Venables is in and out of prison , loves his child porn it seems, the other one has kept his nose clean so there is an arguement for and against rehabilitation in this one case alone

There is but would anyone want him living next to them, especially if they had kids.

It can apply to adults too. One person I dealt with after being released was clearly not "right." Despite being given housing, and training for a FLT licence, and then getting a job. He then imprisoned a much younger male co worker at his home and the lad spent 3 days scared shitless before he managed to get out. Suffice to say the bloke was taken back to prison pretty quickly.

However, I had another who was released aged mid 40s about 20 years after killing his wife. He managed to get a job too and actually married again and had 2 children.

I am a parent and the loss would be unimaginable but for me that would be a life sentence so I agree would not want the killers dead ( and bear in mind that would only happen after numerous appeals thus prolonging my agony ) I would want them jailed so their lives are more ruined than mine

Whilst I can understand the emotion that drives people to suggest reintroduction of the death penalty, when you look at it rationally and say what would it achieve, there really would be no winners. To your point in brackets I think there was a study involving victims families from Texas (death penalty administered) and Minnesota (no death penalty, instead life meaning life) that showed the Minnesota families achieved more closure or peace (to whatever extent that is possible) and more quickly than the Texan families for a variety of reasons. It wasn't a huge study but it showed that the idea of an eye for an eye to bring closure for victims families really is an oversimplified way of looking at the issue. When you recognise that it's not a deterrent due to the nature of most murders; that it doesn't typically help victims families; and that the cost of the appeals process negates any savings from a reduced period of incarceration you have to ask what does it achieve other than satisfy a broad sense of revenge that diminishes society rather than improves it?
