Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Anyone know if that is how the outside of the Coop Live arena is going to look? Just three black boxes off set??

It has to be one of the most dull boring buildings ever designed. It makes Simpson Haugh's ubiquitous grey towers look actually interesting.

It lights up.

The top section is a video screen that goes ground the entire building.

I was just wondering re the faux outrage over the size of the Etihad deal (per year), is there any benefit (or even perceived benefit) to Etihad from being the name of the rest of the Campus, in particular the Arena being on it ?

Just a basic and simple example is people using the tram line or enquiring how to get to the Coop live without actually having any intent of going to the stadium. The name is now synonymous with things not stadium related?

I saw those pictures and wondered if it was just artistic licence? It will look a little bit better I supose, but overall its an incredibly dull building. I'm struggling to think of a worse looking building in the UK.

Recently constructed I might add. ;-)

The wow factor will be at night though mate? Las Vegas looks shite in the day but when the lights etc come on looks amazing!

Fair comment, I take on board what everyone has said about it being lit up! I'm guessing it could be lit during the day also.
Possibly a little bit of function over form (or maybe the other way round, I think I confused myself there) as they've maximised the use of what was a very small parcel of land. There's a lot of building there.

Good point Johnny

I dont know why they cant copy what they do at Gatwick and run a monarail that they run from Beswick Arches which is next to Ashburys (build a park and ride on the waste ground there)

I was trying to find a connection at the other end but could not find it so it would be only Ashbury Station to the Ehihad Campus at the moment

That would be great. The trouble is it would cost a fortune. The monorail is driverless and so is raised up on stilts the whole way to keep it away from cars, pedestrians and horses and carts. Gatwick serves thousands everyday so they could justify and recoup the cost.
