Premier League Games 17th -21st Feb '24

For me Liverpool and Arsenal just have more about them this season than ourselves. Arsenal have strengthened an already strong team well and Liverpool have loads more firepower than us. There's goals all over. They both have the motivation to win it more. For Liverpool it is Klopps last season and Arsenal the disappointment of losing it last season. I think we're a bit drained from last season's magnificent efforts and weakened from losing Gundogan and Mahrez. Our new additions have been a bit underwhelming if we're totally honest. Gvardiol, Nunez and Kovacic haven't exactly set the world alight. Doku has his moments but is raw and inconsistent. If we add Phillips to that list our new additions aren't a patch on what we've lost.
Now I know we're still in the mix for three competitions and our new signings need time to settle in and that's why I feel we'll come up short this season, unless we suddenly click and hit top form. Obviously I really hope I'm totally wrong.
Spot on. TBH given a choice of four in a row or winning the treble and getting the CL and WC monkey off our backs ide take what we won and accept we will probably come up short this season.

It makes a whole lot of difference. We collectively shit our pants at Anfield even when they used to be shit. And rags have a much better record at Anfield than us. 3 wins in 70 years is what’s making people doubt if we can even draw at their place, let alone win.
Not always the case. Mahrez's penalty miss that would have got us the 3 points a few season's back. We very nearly clawed back a draw from being 4-1 down.

If it doesn’t make much difference then tell me why haven’t we looked as bad against them at the Etihad compared to Anfield? I don’t remember the last time they won at Etihad.

Yea but that's the way they setp up

They play completely different to us

They attack with pace and directness and aren't afraid to pull something off even if it means they lose the ball

This allows the opposition to get more joy against them, giving the opponent space to try attack but in doing so it means they themselves are open

We try to slow it down, push them back and stay in control, the way we play invites them to play deep whereas Liveprool don't do that

It's not just the opposition are just inviting them to have an easy win, Liverpool are the ones dictating how the game is played

All liverpool do is play at 100mph and hit it long to their fullbacks or their forward player. They dictate shit because teams play open against them.

Teams camp in their own box against us. How are we to play fast through that?? How would liverpool be able to play their fullbacks in?

Both Arsenal and Liverpool are getting the extra help needed to keep us in check. Ignore their recent splurge in goals they have recently scored. They are papering the cracks. Not suggesting we haven't helped our own cause as we do have a terminal habit of squandering chances.
But they aren't getting help

We are the ones that are struggling

You can't say they are getting help when we miss countless chances and they convert theirs (and their conversation rate isn't even that high)

If we don't win the title, which I don't feel like we will as I can't see us getting the win at Anfield, then it'll be down to one thing, and that's how we have played not how they have

I am going to blow if this Luton team holds us to a draw or a slim win. We have to find ways to killing off matches in the first 45minutes.I wonder how many attempts we will have before we can sneak in 1 goal...,We can't be just watching these lot keep mulling teams when we seem to be on a verge of a draw. The huge scorelines gives them confidence and momentum, whilst our slim margin wins give the opposing teams hope of winning over us or at least taking a point.

Just watch how Luton set up against us. Ultra defensive and try and counter. Wide open with spaces at the back for liverpool.

Brentford last week being the latest example of not giving away a certain penalty.

You've just answered your own question

They attack with pace and aren't afraid to lose it even if it means their opposition have space to attack whereas we try to stifle teams, slow it down and beat teams through constant probing

We saw the goal yesterday once we let then attack us it allowed space for Haaland to run onto, quick direct passing and we were in. That's how they play

They also have runners everywhere hence why their goals are spread out across their midfield

Me too. Given we're bedding new players in, lost Gundogan and Mahrez and we've been without De Bruyne for five months and Haaland for two months, I think it's credit to Pep and the team we've hung in there. The problem is we're doing just that, hanging in there. As I said we might just click into top form and storm the rest of the season but to do that it's vital De Bruyne and Haaland stay fit.

They weren't brilliant vs us in the earlier fixture where we had a good goal chalked off for nothing and Haaland missing before Tront's equaliser. Despite us not being on full cylinders we are doing incredibly well in keeping pace. 6 goals at this stage is nothing.

If teams set up against them as they do against us then it wouldnt matter if they attacked at pace because there is no space for them to run into.

I know how teams set up against us, what worries me is that lack of conversion we have. We play 2 strikers and somehow, the chances they get, they cant seem to convert them. Its like we do our best to hit the keeper, instead of putting it past him or were he cant reach. Our conversion rate is too trash, we need too many attempts on target to have a single goal. From peppering teams, to not knowing how to score. How have we forgotten to score?!

Been that way for a while.

We're missing Gundogan's and Mahrez' goal contributions.

Their replacements are rubbish compared to them.

To be fair we had missed both De Bruyne and Haaland for good part of the season (especially KDB). That is good chunk of goal contributions and both would have covered us for their losses

I'll keep saying. They look good because they have all the space to play in.

If teams set up against them with two rows of 5 in their own box, liverpool would struggle too. No where for the fullbacks and Diaz to run.
They struggled against the parked bus the Rags put up at Anfield.

You’ve just gotta look at Brentford vs Us and the dippers.
They were like the fucking divine wind on Saturday against them!!

Understandbly the team looks tired after last season's tremendous efforts and unfortunately I can see us coming up short in the League. I do think we have a decent chance of retaining the CL and FA Cup which still would be a very good season.

We allow those two rows of 5 to get settled though. They don’t. If Liverpool played slowly, side to side & backwards, they’d have a deep block to contend with too.
Ederson tried one quick break last night to alvarez who received the ball in brentfords half ans was all on his own. He had to stop and turn back as we had no one there. Dippers would have been 3 on 3.

we play a completely different style thats is incredibly successful. fuck all to do with teams setting up differently. As if teams would go to anfield and ‘have a go’. Their home record is the best in the league ffs
