Russian invasion of Ukraine

Trouble is that defence costs have spiralled due to 2 x Carriers and the aircraft for them, plus next gen weapons. In the old days, it was tanks and boots on the ground etc. What it cost for 1 of the carriers would have probably kept the old armed forces of the 70’s going for 5 years or more but nowadays, no chance. Add to that, try getting more people to join the forces if they think there’s a chance we will be fighting Russia and you’d be lucky. I speak as someone who was in for 22 yrs and got out in ‘97. I’m sure that NATO is learning from what is happening currently and training on drones/EW will be on the up…this will negate the need for so many troops, but they will always be needed, as will the US. Whatever we think, we can’t do it without them. I’m hoping for some sane minds over there to pull his plug instead of leading them into nuclear oblivion…

Spend less money on other things.
Easy to say, but what ?

NHS, education, infrastucture ?

For instance the nhs where I live is broken beyond repair, the roads I drive on regularly, are basically shattered, another year of no spending on them, and we might as well get the russians to bomb them to improve things.

We can't just pour money into defence, even if we should, the money has to be spread round, and the next government won't improve anything, whoever they are, and nobody wants to pay more tax.

We spend the extra money on Drones and aircraft if we can't get the people on ships and in the Army.

We did it before and we can do it again .It needs strong leadership. But its possible.

Ivanivske,Donetsk Region,about 5km Southwest Bakhmut.....
Ukrainian Forces go on the counter.

Wave after wave of Russian troops are being cut down.
Lambs.....and all that!!!

Heroyam Slava.
Hopefully a turn in momentum. Early days but Ukraine have absorbed a lot recently a reversal of direction would be perfectly timed.

From "The Analyst":

REFINERY STRIKES HAVE BEEN EXCEPTIONALLY SURGICAL

The slow moving drones the Ukrainians have been using to target Russian refineries in the last few days are clearly being controlled somehow from a distance.
The latest videos of some four quite sizeable drones propelled by a single rear mounted engine and propeller, can clearly be heard on approach. All of the videos showed the drones heading for specific sectors of the refinery.
These don’t just head at the target, they actually circled it and came in for an optimised attack.
What they have been hitting is a very significant and expensive piece of the refinery process - what amounts to the distillation towers - sometimes known as the cracking plant.
Oil in crude form has various consistency depending on where it comes from. For example North Sea crude is considered a ‘light, sweet’ crude, whereas Venezuela produces a heavy sulphurous crude that requires a lot of refining and blending with other types of oil to make it useable.
The distillation or cracking plant, consists of heating processes and chemical mixing that breaks down the crude into heavy fuels, such as heating oil and diesel, through to petrol, aviation fuel and naphtha, all of which are much lighter - these rise to the top of the towers and are siphoned off into separate pipes and tanks for further processing or distribution.
It’s an almost non-stop process. These plants and their towers, pumps, filters, heaters and tanks are incredibly complex pieces of equipment, consisting of kilometres of pipes and expensive alloy tubing that’s resistant to intense chemical corrosion, are very expensive to manufacture and maintain, but critical - without it the entire refinery is useless. So while the refinery may look like it’s only taken a little damage - most refineries are crude tanks and distribution pre-processing, then tanks of post-processed fuels- what has been hit is the key to the entire operation.
Without it the refinery is dead. These attacks have been exceptionally damaging and in the words of a Russian observer, ‘they’ve hit the towers at Ryazan refinery, that means it’s totally stuffed, they got it.’ He obviously knew how the process worked and he sounded deeply upset about it!
Should have thought about that before you started this war!

Slava Ukraini !

Statement by the Freedom of Russia Legion:

Belgorod and Kursk: results of the humanitarian corridor

Since the operation of the humanitarian corridor, announced for the evacuation of civilians from the Belgorod and Kursk regions of Russia, as of 07:00 Moscow time, more than 7,000 civilian vehicles of residents of Belgorod and the Belgorod region have used it.

This became known thanks to information provided by local law enforcement and security officials who were in opposition to the Putin regime.

Also from the city of Kursk, more than 600 civilian vehicles used the evacuation corridor, in which Kursk residents left their homes.

Let us recall that earlier the Legion “Freedom of Russia”, the Siberian Battalion and the Russian Volunteer Corps called on residents of the Kursk and Belgorod regions to urgently evacuate in connection with the conduct of a limited military operation on the territory of the mentioned regions. For this purpose, a humanitarian corridor was announced for the evacuation of the population from 21:00 on March 14 to 7:00 on March 15.

After the expiration of the humanitarian corridor, the destruction of military facilities in the Belgorod and Kursk regions will continue until the region is completely liberated from the troops of the Putin regime.
