Jeremie Frimpong

Here are stat comparison for Frimpong v Couto for this season

Not seen enough of this kid tbh, only highlights - seems like he's beeing playing RWB or RW mostly?
he basically is like defensive winger, this season mainly marauders on the right side to exploit weakneses with his insane pace, can go inside and outside, very hard to defend against him. Something we haven't had since Ben Mendy maybe. Frimpong defensive input is very hard to say, bcs in Alonso system he has given the license to roam further and be covered by 3 cb's at the back 2 defensive midfielder in Xhaka and Palacios helping out, thus for me he is defensive winger.

Couto is more of playmaking fullback, something a la Cancelo with smaller frame, who is great at build-up and assists and generally poor in defense.

All depends on what Pep wants to do next season, there has been chatter that Pep wants to try a 3-5-2 system again.

Can't see Pep using a 352, might surprise me but can't see it.

We mustn't forget that Pep will probably make them both better and (if he wants them) he can see something more to be pulled out of them after the normal settling in process. He could definitely teach them to defend better in our setup.

I can't see i either especially changing that system drastically mean more than just few player will get dropped from his team next season, all of that just to accomodate one single player.

All of his signing so far is to accomodate Pep vision and way of play yeah that also including friggin someone like Haaland, why would Pep suddenly changes his mind for someone like Frimpong ?

On this basis.........I'm out.

One might expect that to be shown at 90 million +.

If he moves to Real Madrid, then I hope we can squeeze more than 20 million out of them.
Both are correct no?

Well if that becomes the only option we are going to be in for a stand off. Couto I imagine likely to dig his heels in to get a move and Perez loves to wait for a deal.

Despite a nominally deeper starting position, Couto is worse defensively than Frimpong and doesn’t attack as well, there’s literally zero reason why anyone who has watched a decent amount of Leverkusen and Girona this season would prefer Couto.

6th percentile for defensive actions!

I wont claim to have watched enough of either to make a full judgement but the bits I have seen of Frimpong he is very direct, fast but has lost the ball quite often, so I wonder with having Doku also Pep would be interested in two ‘wildcards’ rather than have a player more likely to retain possession, be involved in the build up play (a la Zinkchenko) as a preferred replacement for the right side.

I suppose only time will tell but a 40 million release clause certainly makes the deal very attractive.

If its Frimpong vs Couto then I would go Frimpong.

Couto is probably has better on the ball IQ, which would make most think Pep would choose him, but his speed isnt suited for the role.

Look at how Pep used Walker, specifically given the role because he is fast.

Unfortunately Walker is poor at crossing and dribbling, which Frimpong excels at and could be amazing at in this role.

Defensively I understand he is nowhere near Walker, but thats a small sacrifice you make, his speed will help with transitions which we often find ourselves in, much more than Couto.

Exactly. You can't coach speed. If you're rapid, you are rapid. Provided he wants to put in the time and effort, he can learn other things needed of him.
