Jeremie Frimpong

Have you watched Frimpong? He's played in a team that's had the second best defensive record (behind Munich) and offensively he's got more goals and assists than Doku. He's quick, he's strong, he ticks the HG quota for the CL and he's allegedly got a release clause of less than £30m. Who else are we realistically going to sign for that kind of money?

We currently only have Rico Lewis at the club who is technically classed as a full back, yet you're concerned about Frimpong's "defensive side"? If this lad is so shit, then why are the current premier league champions looking to sign him to replace one of their most influential players?
I’ve watched him countless times. He played as a wingback in a 3-2-4-1. with no zero defensive tasks. You can even look up his progressive stats it’s in the lowest of low. Neither was he essential for the build up neither did he have to do much on the defensiv side being covered by Andrich/ Xhaka and Tapsoba. He got freedom he wouldn’t get while playing for city. Do we play a wingback system? No? Would people cry again when we get goal after goal from the right side and get nostalgia about how much of a defensive monster Walker was compared to Frimpong? Yes they would. Nunes gets stick already and Frimpong would get even more stick. Most here laughed about TAA defensive effort but want Frimpong who is even worse.
Watch the game of Leverkusen and compare it to that of City. Leverkusen doesn’t play against low blocks that often also they don’t side way pass 24/7. set up Doku in Leverkusen and his stats would’ve been better too.

And the release clause thing. Yeah Liverpool got him already so it’s over. The club didn’t try or whatever or don’t think he fits. Would’ve been HG + low risk but the club didn’t take the opportunity. There must be something. The only top club being interested in him officially was and is Liverpool. The others maybe looked at him out an enquiry in - nothing more. He is a defensive liability.

People were complaining about Nunes already how is Frimpong an upgrade on the defensive side?
Frimpong gets the headlines for his attacking play, quite rightly. But he is decent defensively, tenacious in the tackle, aggressive, closes down quickly and covers well when needed, as can be seen here in this video. He's not done a lot of that under Alonso, as he's been asked to play differently (not his fault) but he has those capabilities. Nunes has done ok, but with a couple of huge errors mixed in. With how we seem to want to play, with Foden possible at inverted RW, an attacking full back like Frimpong might actually work for us, sliding the left back into a back 3. Decent price, club trained and Liverpool dont seem to have any concerns if he can play at right back. There is a risk there, that he gets caught out too often and we play against low blocks more. He's certainly no Kyle walker defensively but he's probably got more assists this season than Walker has in his entire career. And Pep has had very attacking Fullbacks in the past (Alves). However, for the reasons mentioned we should be considering him.

So after all that, is he better or worse than Nunes/Akanji at right back?

He is not decent defensively.

He literally does no defending, I posted his stats compared to Nunes a couple pages back.

He literally doesnt resemble a right back in anyway, he is 100% a winger playing wingback.

Are we absolutely certain this guy is not good enough?

Because if he shows up at Liverpool and starts dominating, I'll be pissed!!!

Just saying...

there is high chance he will not be so good with 2 cb formation

Way better and I’m surprised we didn’t go for him but have to trust that we have someone better lined up who is better defensively because I’m fucked with this everyone needs to be a great passer in pros team because atm we have basically fuck all steel in this team .

He started his career as a right back in a 4, which resulted in bigger moves, so he can't have been that bad. Plus everyone knows having elite recovery pace helps a lot, look at Walker. You're not getting a lot of high defensive stats if you're playing as an attacking RB, doesn't mean he couldn't play as a RB though. This guy is club trained as well! Doesn't matter now though.

This is where stats are useless. He is playing a different position currently to Nunes (not his fault). You’re not comparing apples with apples!!

He has some decent defensive attribute's, even if in the last 2/3 seasons he’s been played further forward!!
