I hope you are right, but it was worrying that so many people were willing to help the revolutionary guard and other state security agencies by reporting those who opposed extreme application of laws based on religion.

Yes , they are the fanatics, the stooges and the snoops that keep these regimes alive just as in the Chinese Communist Party, but Iran isn't China and has at least some semblance of a functioning democracy. These things can turn very quickly especially with events such like this tragic as they are. Not saying they'll turn now but Iran could be reaching an inflexion point in the near future

And there were plenty of video reports about CCP snitches caught reporting people to the authorities during the COVID crisis.
Nothing whatsoever against Chinese people sir , do not conflate what I'm saying with some kind of anti-sino agenda. My wife happens to be half Chinese

No problem my friend, I have great admiration for the Chinese people and it's rich culture. I happen to have some reservations about the CCP and the lack of democracy.
Back to Iran....
 
Iranian people are quite nationalistic, proud, even a little bit arrogance.
Even if the regime change happens, I think there will be very small possibility, if not zero, the new one will do whatever the US want them to do. And the US will call the new president of Iran a "dictator". Nothing will change.
