Racism in Football

Chelsea are investigating a video Enzo Fernandez posted on social media which the French Football Federation alleges is racist.

Fernandez's post on Instagram shows him and his Argentina chanting about the France team after their Copa America victory over Colombia.

Wesley Fofana, his Chelsea team-mate, reposted the video on his X, formerly known as Twitter, with the words: "Football in 2024: uninhibited racism".

The French Football Federation has said it will file a legal complaint alleging "racially offensive and discriminatory remarks" were made by Argentina players following their Copa America victory over Colombia on Sunday night.

In a statement, the FFF - the governing body of French football - said its president Philippe Diallo would challenge FIFA president Gianni Infantino and Argentina Football Association boss Claudio Fabian Tapia to respond to the alleged remarks.

The statement read: "The president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, condemns in the strongest terms the unacceptable racist and discriminatory remarks which were made against the players of the French team in the context of a song sung by players and supporters of the Argentina team after its victory in the Copa America and broadcast in a video on social media.

"Faced with the seriousness of these shocking remarks, contrary to the values of sport and human rights, the president of the FFF decided to directly challenge his Argentinian counterpart and FIFA, and to file a legal complaint for insulting remarks of a racist and discriminatory nature."

Didn't surprise me one bit.

My wife is half Argentine, half Korean, and she told me a lot about the history, how they treat Bolivians and Peruvians and others. I've seen plenty of examples.

To see them singing songs about black players doesn't surprise me at all. Didn't expect the players would be daft enough to do it, especially when a lot of them play with black players, but then again, racism knows no bounds when it comes to stupidity.
 
Not just Enzo Fernandez. Lisandro Martinez (United), Alex Mac Allister (Liverpool), Giovanni Lo Celso (Spurs), and Guido Rodriguez (Betis) all on camera joining in. And that's just the ones on camera.

Most surprising thing about this was being reminded that Wesley Fofana plays for Chelsea (and cost them upwards of £70M)
 
Also it should be worth noting that he actually cut the video off before it gets to the racist terms in the song, it doesn't mean they didn't sing it when the camera was off because they already started it, but the actual parts people are translating about African players playing for France is not in the video, he made sure to cut the live stream in time.

According to a few people on Twitter, the main song in the video that is being widely shared, where numerous players are seen singing, is a harmless song.

It’s the bit right at the end when Fernandez has the camera right in his face when the French song starts.

There are other people joining in, but they’re all off camera, and impossible to identify.

Obviously I don’t speak Spanish so can’t verify that but nobody seems to be questioning it, so it’s likely to be true.
 
I suppose the bit about Mbappe being gay and likes fucking transgenders is just harmless fun aswell?

Only a song innit?

They didn't actually show the racist part in the video. That part was coming up and he cut the video off just before it. They were clearly singing the song that leads up to that part , but the racist part is not on any of the videos. He knew when to cut it off.

I can speak Spanish , so I can verify that, and I'm sure anyone on here that can will also.

So it's a difficult one because the actual part that is seen as racist is not on video because he conveniently cut the video before it, but they were clearly in the process of singing the song..so it's highly likely they carried on with rest of the song after he cut the vide... but now you can't 100% prove they got to that part.

But it's quite clear that he knows right from wrong and knows how offensive the song is and its Intent, otherwise he wouldn't have perfectly timed the moment to cut the video off.

He’s had an apology written for him, admitting singing the song, which is pretty much proof he did.

He has to say something though. Staying quiet would have been much worse for him. I think it’s a bit of a non-apology written by his publicist, but he had to put a statement out addressing it.

Sorry, I lose track of who said what. Some guy earlier said the song wasn’t caught on video so there wasn’t actual proof they sang it.
