Fair fucks to the two Yorkshire lads this is some steadying of the ship
If England are still batting an hour after tea tomorrow and no overs have been lost to rain or bad light in the meantime, we’re looking at a lead of 500+, assuming we keep scoring at Bazball rates! So maybe declare an hour before tea if we’re still in? That way, the lead would be 400-ishIt’ll probably depend on time too, as disco pop suggests. 300 with 5 sessions to get them would be a gamble.
Maybe it’s bat until an hour after tea tomorrow and then go for it.
This is obviously ignoring the inevitable collapse!
True. But I think we’d all take 5 one-sided wins against the Aussies in an Ashes series though! This test could go either way now. Which is great. You want closely contested tests; let's be honest, the one at Lord's was a waste of time, and certainly wasn't value for not inconsiderable money for the punters.
Ah but that's different. I'd love us to trample them into dirt. They'd say the exact same thing about us!True. But I think we’d all take 5 one-sided wins against the Aussies in an Ashes series though!
Guess it depends on how much faith Stokes has in our bowlers as to how much time he thinks we might need.If England are still batting an hour after tea tomorrow and no overs have been lost to rain or bad light in the meantime, we’re looking at a lead of 500+, assuming we keep scoring at Bazball rates! 350 seems to be the mythical figure for 4th innings chases. It's only been done 13 times in the history of test cricket.Guess it depends on how much faith Stokes has in our bowlers as to how much time he thinks we might need.
I guess once we go over 300 ahead, we’ll start boshing it around, so we could have 500 before tea!
5 in the last 10 years though suggests it’s becoming more commonplace.350 seems to be the mythical figure for 4th innings chases. It's only been done 13 times in the history of test cricket.
Then Jimmy can get to work, oh..Great day out and a proper contest. Be good to see the two Yorkies continue for a while, get a lead of 400+ and stick them in
BBC Sport says that Glamorgan will no longer play cricket at Swansea as the ground isn't up to standard That's a shame. It's the ground where Sobers once hit six 6's in an over. A few years later I saw Lancs' Frank Hayes hit 32 in an over off the same bowler, Malcolm (?) Nash. When Nash came up the pavilion steps a bit later he was muttering "never bloody again."

The rope being 5 yards in from the advertising boards you mean? Yes, definitely smaller. When was the last run four (discounting overthrows) you saw? Hardly ever happens now.You know, just a query to all and sundry. When I see the ECB summaries on Youtube, the outfields look incredibly fast to me these days. I just get the impression that, in England in particular, they've got faster. Different turf technology? Drier climate? I just don't know. Some of the ropes look pretty close in, too, although that presumably cannot have varied over the years.
