By all accounts we won`t see Rodri for a few weeks due to the injury and rest since the Euros. So Saturday will definitely give us a idea of what`s in store. I firmly believe he`ll start Kova and O`Reilly at Wembley. It would be a nice reward and a confidence booster for O`Reilly.
Yeah, he could put himself in the picture for a few games while the lads come back, far more physical presence than anyone else in the mix.

There seems to be no real consensus on what Tikki's to do list should be...

Is the priority...

1 Rodri backup
2 Alvarez replacement
3 Left back
4 Left wing back
5 Option 1 and 2
6 Do FA

On Pep’s to do list, number 1 should be to have Gvardiol play at left back and not left wing on Saturday…

With Alvarez leaving coupled with the previous sales of Gundogan and Mahrez means we have lost a lot of goals and assists for the second season in a row. Last season Kovacic, Nunes and Doku arrived but they didn’t score and create enough.

Yes we won the league but we lost both the FA Cup final and went out of the Champions League despite being the better side. Losing Alvarez means we need to replace his goals and assists. It’s asking an awful lot of Bobb and McAtee to get 32 goals and assists between them.
Not a chance they get 15 goals let alone 32 .nog looking great atm for signings and j can’t see anyone being happy if we go into a he new season as we are

Have some context. Julian is 24. McAtee is 21. Alvarez has proven to be a top striker. IMO he's also proven that with him in any other position we don't win anything of consequence. As far as being "accomplished" obviously Alvarez is much further ahead. In terms of pure footballing skills if you think McAtee is not in the same ballpark as Julian I would agree. McAtee is much better on the ball, has better vision, and is a better player in tight spaces, so yes, they are in complete different ballparks as players...
The point is McAtee has literally proven almost nothing. Alvarez is an extremely accomplished player at the highest levels of club and international football.

I'm coming around to the idea of not signing a 6 to cover Rodri, for one big reason - who is out there that would do a better job than Kovacic and would be willing to sit on the bench most weeks?

With the wealth of attacking talent we have, I think we're going to see Pep lineup with 2 attacking 8s most of the time, occasionally playing Bernardo, Kovacic or Lewis next to Rodri if the opponent calls for it. If we signed a Bruno G. or someone of that ilk, we'd have to play them most weeks. And that means either dropping one of KDB and Foden or forcing the latter out wide again.

I'd be happier if we signed a right sided defender to compete with and ultimately replace Walker, allowing us to push Lewis into his more natural midfield position.

Agree, it will only repeat Alvarez scenario that the striker in question will feel that he never be the main guy as long Haaland in there.

No sane striker in this entire world wants to be seen as backup for someone else, they always want to be seen as main guy in team

Once upon a time we had aguero, tevez, ballotelli and dzeko..

Of the 4 haaland is closest to dzeko..

Funny is..

We couldn’t sell Dzeko, Balotelli and Tevez for a half money we received for Alvarez

Supply and demand.

We live in an era where if a 9 gets you 15 a season he is bordering on world class.

Back in 2012, there were so many good number 9s knocking about that there was enough to go around for the top teams to buy.

Falcao, Aguero, Suarez, Balotelli, Ibrahimovic, Cavani, Di Natale, Lewandowski, Van Persie, David Villa just to name a collection. All 20-30 goal a season footballers.
