"City discussed the possibility of signing Kyogo Furuhashi after Oscar Bobb broke a bone in his leg, ruling him out for three to four months, but have decided against bidding for the Japan forward.

"City had also spoken about the possibility of bringing in Orri Oskarsson, the 19-year-old Copenhagen forward.

"In the end, Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain, the sporting director, decided it would be better to stick with the present squad, which has been boosted by the return of Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona on a free transfer."

From a few, quoting the times.

Makes sense but I'd have liked the buzz of a new striker.

Worth mentioning that despite Pep's usage of him in a deeper midfield role, Nico O'Reilly tends to play as more of a number 10 for the academy sides and has even played as a striker on a few occasions. Both he and McAtee are more than capable of playing the false 9 role off the bench or in cup games.
Did you watch those two pre-season and/or O'Reilly playing for the EDS last time out? Hard to see how either could warrant a start in the first team.

Which ever way it is dressed up, we are a striker light. It is ok saying Gundogan can do it etc. Just last Saturday if Haaland had got an early injury, when Foden had the eartha kitts. There wasn't an attacking threat on the bench. You move Gundogan, Foden (when fit) Bobb (when fit), De Bruyne to false 9 that weakens the team. Much like we suffered when Kompany left, Laporte got injured early season, so we played Fernandinho at centre back and weakened the whole unit.

The striker role is far less necessary these days.

A deeper lying forward that can link the play as well as run in behind is a better fit in Pepball.

The top teams are mostly moving away from the traditional number 9.

I think most fans would agree we are a striker light, but it is not as simple as just going out and signing one. You need one who is willing to be second choice, and has to be good enough to contribute when he is selected. There maybe no one at this current time on the market the club think is capable of filling that role. There may be however in January or next season. It's a risk, but signing some one could also be a gamble if they turn out not good enough. Then you end up in the Philips and Nunes situation.

I think that's a valid point. About attacking threat on the bench.

The thing is, none of the strikers we have been linked with particularly offers that.

Txiki likely be there in Switzerland at the CL draw, he wont have time today to deal with transfers. he travels back tomorrow morning I guess then takes bit of siesta. I think we just run out of enough time to bring a striker tomorrow. if we had just one more day after but window closes too soon.
:)

If only somebody invented a device where you could talk and video call people in different countries..

Some on here will continue to relentlessly argue with you on this obvious point...

Or just accept that the right player wasn’t available for whatever reason and we decided to trust in what we have until the right player does become available.
Think we may be learning our lesson when it comes to buying players that don’t fit.

We've won league's playing the false nine. We've won league's with just one striker. Pep knows how to shuffle the pack.

Surely you should know that by now?
