TV Series

I have read most of Mick Herrons books (on to Bad Actors now and all the ‘Oxford’ series) and I find them a really strange enjoyable read. The question is - do I start watching ‘Slow Horses’ or will I find them a disappointment? I always like to read the book before the film as I then see it as I want to see it and not as someone else sees it.
Prefer Slow Horses TV series than the books myself…….

I too have read the books, the TV series is a pretty good adaptation, Gary Oldman is how I pictured Jackson Lamb, and other castings are accurate.
Its so frustrating when its an adaptation of a book and the people are cast are different to the people you pictured in the role, they did that with the strain and cast people completely different to the people i had pictured which somewhat ruined the show for me

For me it’s not meant to be……..lot of quirkiness……I can rewatch numerous times along with Early Doors, Phoenix Nights & Curb your Enthusiasm…..
i think with shows like early doors and phoenix nights if you grew up in the north you recognise those characters, you've met those people and thats what makes it funnier and allows you to watch over and over.

Escapism at its best……….we all need a laugh nowadays;-)
that we do, tbf ive been watching a show thats made me laugh for the last ten years called the rags, give it a go , theirs slapstick, theirs lots of useless characters and just when you think they are turning it round they have another season to make you laugh.

She's Diana Riggs daughter, not that it makes a difference.

As someone said earlier it has a cult following, metal detectorists and Triumph TR7 owners.
A bit of useless info for anyone interested. The TR7 was actually owned by Mackenzie Crook and it was auctioned last year at Matthewsons with the money going to charity.
Went for over £30k,, which is about 6 times more than it is actually worth. Bought by a fan of the show.

Finished 'From' series 2 and really feels like another one of those shows where they will just keep you spinning along from series to series with nothing really happening.

Keep it random and bizarre, but literally nothing happened in series 2 to progress it other than the last 30 seconds of the last episode. Very frustrating.

Im the same with Bosch. I love the books but cant get on with the tv series as the bloke playing him is not what the character is for me. If you havent read the books its probably a great show

A documentary on Netflix about the miners strikes.

I vaguely remember this as a kid. I know this is from the view of the miners, but fuck me the government and police were terrible.

Finished Sambre - Anatomy of a crime on the beeb , french telling of a true story about a rapist who kept attacking women over thirty years , very gritty but excellent acting

I was getting really annoyed at the french police handling of the cases , they just didnt bother investigating and didnt even put them down as rapes just assaults , real clusterfuck

The real life rapist was sentenced in 2022, not long enough imo

Neil Gaiman has recently been accused of sexual assault; and as a result, numerous of his media ventures have been put on hold.

If Gaiman is indeed guilty, so be it - he deserves to be cut off.

And yet some of his books - American Gods and Coraline in particular - are awesome.

And his Good Omens TV series on Amazon Prime is excellent too.

It's a shame that so many, exceptionally talented and seemingly wholesome people (e.g., Bill Cosby), turn out to be reprehensible scumbags in real life - I'm not saying that Gammon falls into this category, but there are accusations that he is.
