Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

We're unbeaten after 6 games with 4 wins, having played Chelsea, West Ham and Newcastle away and Arsenal at home. Early kick off away at St James' Park after they have had a week off is not easy. We are doing absolutely fine, Pep slightly got the balance off imo today but its not the end of the world we will learn from it and improve.
Wasn't happy with the performance but have since driven home and remembered that as long as we're within 3-5 points of the leaders come Feb/March time we'll be reet.

Some positives from performances:

- Grealish was looking something like it today. Hopefully he carries on this way.
- Akanji was solid
- Gvardiol has been threatening for a couple of games and now he seems to have rediscovered his bizarre goalscoring ability.
- Rico played well though he seemed a little bit less involved playing further up the pitch.
- Haaland is looking very hungry and driven
- Savinho's cameo was strong and he is growing into the way we play at quite a fast pace.
- Kovacic was pretty solid and reliable

Not at all surprised to see the stick Grealish is getting haha

Name me a better player today other than Gvardiol? Grealish was really good today, Referee let him get kicked around the place!

Grow a set of bollocks, No Rodders, No KDB and basically no Foden and yet we are still the team to force the game.

These 19 teams are fucking whimps! Cowardly bastards the lot of them, They've all spent multi millions of pounds and still play like a poor man's Stoke City.

We'll piss this fucking league with or without Rodri.

Point there is never a bad result but a very poor summer is now showing us up.
Devoid of any creativity without an aging and more injury prone Kev, a complete lack of goal scorers bar Haaland since selling and not replacing Alverez.
Woeful and i am being kind there set pieces at both ends. You can play badly and win with a set piece as we see so often with Arsenal and Dippers but we seem to treat ours with disdain.
I was amazed we won the PL with our injuries and small squad last season, players now a year older ie Walker, Kev and a failure to address the well know squad issues in the summer, i feel this is one season it will bite us on the arse.

You can go down 2 routes

We are still the best squad in the league and have about an average age of around 26 so not really an ageing squad, Yes a couple of key players are coming to the age of one more season.

But injuries and having the most players at the euros means we are still not fully bedded into the season
Rodri is the one player you can not lose for the season and it will take time to bed another system into the players

City fans should understand a point away to Newcastle is a good result because of the Rodri injury last week, Pep has had little time to build a system that the replacing players can understand and feel settled in

Haven’t seen the game but a draw at Newcastle isn’t a bad result and it’s out of the way but what’s worrying is our lack of depth especially where Haaland is an injury away from our season being done and that’s just not the he premier league . We need to go in the market in January even if it’s for loan deals .

The combination of Walker and Kovacic on that right hand side is the definition of anti-creativity.

Probably still win the league but ucl we've got no chance.

I can only assume that you think Doku has been a shite signing then. No one can possibly think he’s been a good signing for us. He’s had one great game for us since he’s been here and offers absolutely nothing.
Doku has had his fair share of good games. And Pep must think the same as he gives him a plenty of minutes.

The second half against Chelsea was very good from him right?

… the big talking point was the penalty, Shearer and Given both said it wasn't a pen - so refreshing to hear the game being analysed and commentated upon impartially

Exactly! It wasn’t a penalty ESPECIALLY considering any contact that did occur was initiated by Gordon! More goals from the “Dark Arts!”

Gordon should have been the one to get the yellow, not Ederson.

To think we have VAR and they didn’t overturn that is a joke. Gillette got fleeced! Needed to be sharper than he was.

I wish we didn't freeze and would have scored when the Newcastle player went down in their box like he had been shot after Grealish moved his arm back slightly. He really got away with that as it would have outright cost Newcastle the goal in the most stupid circumstances.

Add to that list, Foden coming on and making a difference.
Phil will once again be a major part of any success this season.
He is a superb footballer who can supply goals from midfield, perhaps the only one (apart from KDB) ?

City had some pretty tough games since start of season and are sitting very nicely, nice run now to really rack up the points. Can't understand negativity towards the team especially after Rodris injury, they have been very good. Gundo though has been poor, shows what a year out of Pep and his coaching staff does, he just basically got in the way today.

Should have been 3 up at ht. Gundy had a mare. I love Rico, but he has no physical presence.
It's a point, but we need to see this plan Pep has, cos that wasn't it.
As for the officiating - jesus. The laughing with the Newcastle staff at some of that twats decisions by whey man was another level of piss taking.
