Stadium Developments thread - San Siro to be demolished (p56)

UEFA will reopen the bidding to host the 2027 men’s Champions League final after the match was taken away from Milan.
European football’s governing body has gone back to the drawing board after authorities in the Italian city could not offer guarantees that refurbishment work at San Siro stadium and the surrounding area would not affect the match.
UEFA indicated in May that a decision on the 2027 final host was being postponed, subject to UEFA receiving the necessary guarantees around the San Siro refurbishment.
A decision on a new host is now expected in May or June next year, UEFA said.

It’s looking more and more likely that they will come back and say that we need a new stadium.
There just isn’t the footprint on our current site for improvements, and an extension that would have modern facilities.
They have been talking to the Freeman of the city about a land swap on the other side of Leazes Park (just north of SJP).

Further to this. Recent reports suggest that even if we stay at SJP, it would be a complete rebuild.
During the Premier League Summer Series in pre-season before last season, we played at the Mercedes Benz stadium in Atlanta, and those higher up at the club were very much publicly saying how it’s such a great stadium repeatedly. It also helped the fact that our CEO was the CEO of Atalanta United at the time of the stadium opening.
They were heavily trying to get the message across about how good it is, even getting fans reaction etc.
Anyway I have seen YouTube videos of it, and it looks great, both in the stands, and the concourse, the outside would come down to a more personal taste, but it’s certainly unique.
Anyway as much as I like the open plan concept of the concourses, I don my think it would work here in the U.K. whilst we have the no alcohol in sight of the pitch laws.

More recently, the reports on the progress of the stadium having been pushing the fact that the people we have looking at our options includes the people who have built the SOFI stadium in LA.
Reports go on to state that they expect a bill of between £1bn-£4bn for whatever we decide to do.

I wonder why you aren’t suggesting a Wembley of the North East and trying to get someone else to foot the bill! Or maybe your owners have more integrity than the Scruffy tax dodger. Personally I think you’ll move onto that land between Leazes Park and Castle Leazes Halls of Residence (where I lived for a year) and then Leazes Park can be extended onto the site of SJP.

The North East, get public money?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Yeah, that’s exactly where I think we’ll move too, and outside of being able to rebuild SJP, which I don’t think is possible, is my preferred option.
Also, if we spend the type of money as being touted, the stadium will be better than Wembley, although it may be a few thousand short of its capacity. It will be making a mockery of rebuilding Wembley, which I never agreed with in anyway.

Well over 80k at this evenings Leinster - Munster rugby match in Croke Park.
Just goes to show what revenue a large stadium might bring you.
