Southampton (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

I said the same about wolves last week, these lower sides are giving us seriously tough games. But we’re not making it easy for ourselves either - 22 attempts this week, 22 attempts last week. Finishing needs to be better.

We play into their hands by moving the ball too slowly.

They must love it when they see us turn a promising counter attack into another spell of possession for our CBs.

This has to change.

Rarely look at the full table but just did and how have Southampton only got one point? If we’d gone in at the break all square today, I don’t think many would have begrudged them.
I think its that Peter Sutcliffe lookalike in charge of them. He gets his teams to play good football and he demands they pass the ball. Sometimes though they need to scrap a point away at those at the end of the table and he wont budge on his principles

Weird football from Russell's Southampton. Play nice football out from the back but had very little in their final third apart from the chance right before half time. They will go down playing like that.

How the hell did we end up hanging on for dear life at home against a relegation candidate? Wasn't as though we didn't have the chances.

Still it's 3 points, but we've not been convincing at all against these bottom half teams.
We dominated, Haaland should of had a hatrick, the two misses were simple chances, we score those and it's the easy win the performance deserved. Goals don't just change games they also change fans opinions on the game.

I hope Soton stay up. Played great football and sold out their end. No rubbish songs either. I was nervous all game due to their skill.
I hope they go down. Shit football. If you were nervous all game due to their skill, I have no idea how you'll cope when we meet a decent team. They were probably the worst team we'll play all season (until we meet them again).

Credit to Southampton they made it really difficult, not only defensively but they kept the ball well n’all. They just had no creativity at al.

And neither did we! We are really lacking pure creative players. Some on that pitch today created nothing for a teammate. Some were an anonymous.

Dias, Akanji, Kovačić and especially Gvardiol played well. The rest were just a bit, don’t know the word to use… lacking?

But it’s 3 points. Nobody will remember the issues by next week.

You are entitled to your opinion. I was being humble.

Was reading the Southampton forum earlier and they’re none too happy with him. Unless they start winning, he’s going to have his ‘number plates checked’, to extend your simile.

But we couldn’t rest players. We had five outfielders on the bench, two of whom needed a rest (Gundo and Stones). Who would you have brought on. As long as we were leading Pep was going to keep the original eleven on the pitch.
True, I get that but ideally you want to be taking maybe Erling and Bernardo off and bring on McAtee and Gundo but hard to do that at 1-0

Am I missing something? They spent the entire game putting 11 men behind the ball playing dead today.

Not sure about that. Literally had every player inside their own box, multiple times. I hate that anti-football shite. They will finish bottom, 100%. City were really poor, as bad as I have seen them in two years, but they still only mustered two weak attempts on goal. Dire. No idea where the 'they play good football' comes from. They do not. Today, neither did we, for balance

As for their pathetic chanting, akin to the nursery rhyme shite like Huddersfield last season. Childish, and embarrasing. Football in a library, eh? The chant of the playground, not of followers of a proper club. Fucking bullshit.

I nearly nodded off several times.

In the past we’d have annihilated cannon fodder like that 8-0.

3 points etc but we’re really not at it this season (yet).
Not at it.

Honestly, people are spoilt.

This was another very dominant performance despite the amount of passes and possession Southampton had and City’s lack of goals.

Southampton’s possession was mostly in their own half.

Some excellent last ditch defending and goalkeeping kept the score down.

Undoubtedly City were a bit tired and several times their decision making went awry but overall they played well again.

We won’t get to annihilate many teams because they all have game plans very much designed to avoid that.

Bored of teams setting up to lose against us. Time wasting in the 75th minute with hope of the scored being 1-0 in the final few minutes to snatch a draw. Pathetic.

No other club in the country has to face a 11 man defence. I know we are better than everyone else, so I can see why they do it. It just makes watching our games tedious half the time.
