Southampton (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

There is a reason why we play in this way. And it won't change soon either. Schedule is brutal.
This is exactly why we look like were in 2nd gear sometimes, as its just a way of reserving energy over the course of the season.

It's a method that's worked perfectly over the last few years, and it actually surprises me how many Blues can't seem to see that this is a part of our overall strategy.

Is it part of the strategy to balls up great goal scoring oportunities.

We were absolutely fuckin awful, piss poor and more boring than possible where pep got his saints were good shite from God knows they were worse! Garbage today, take the points and move on, Up the Blues

Credit to Southampton they made it really difficult, not only defensively but they kept the ball well n’all. They just had no creativity at al.

And neither did we! We are really lacking pure creative players. Some on that pitch today created nothing for a teammate. Some were an anonymous.

Dias, Akanji, Kovačić and especially Gvardiol played well. The rest were just a bit, don’t know the word to use… lacking?

But it’s 3 points. Nobody will remember the issues by next week.
Though Savinho had a decent game & there's not much more he can do if Haaland doesn't finish from a pinpoint cross.
Nunes had another good game, 1st half when he was getting the ball & looks to be settling in on the left wing

No but I imagine the target would be to score 'x' amount of goals over the course of the season, us missing chances isn't something new.

Top of the league and most goals scored kind of overrides your post.

How the hell did we end up hanging on for dear life at home against a relegation candidate? Wasn't as though we didn't have the chances.

Still it's 3 points, but we've not been convincing at all against these bottom half teams.
Hanging on for dear life? Seems a bit hyperbolic. We weren't great at attacking them though.

We got the win, as you say. I thought we were ok, just a few better finishes away from a standard 3-0.

Frustrating isn't it. Would you prefer to win 5-0 or be in for 5-in-a-row.

I understand it's part of the strategy, I am simply arguing that it is eminently easier to break down teams before they get 10 men in and around their box.

It is also eminently easier to conserve energy (by bringing off key players) at 3-0 than 1-0.

I don’t get why we are leaving central midfield to Kova alone he’s not Rodri. Foden & Bernie just bomb forward leaving Rico to try & help out in midfield pulling him out of position leaving more gaps.

We can not play the same way when Rodri is not in it. When we play a good team they will tear us apart if we stay like this.

Kova was superb today but he can’t do it alone like this every game

Just got in. I’m sure the stats probably say otherwise, but that was at best average today

Southampton played better football than us for long spells and it wouldn’t have surprised me in the slightest if they’d have equalised

We’re desperate to get some of our major players back .. especially KDB.. and we’re lucky that we’re currently in a run of playing relatively easier teams

Perhaps people expect City, one of the best teams in the world, to score more than once against a team that has conceded three regularly this season.
Do you think Southampton have set up in a 5-4-1 in any other games this season ? Maybe if they had they would have more than one point.

I hope Soton stay up. Played great football and sold out their end. No rubbish songs either. I was nervous all game due to their skill.
Newly promoted sides always bring a good following. If they stay up for one or two seasons you will see that change. ‘Come on you yellows’ - really ?? I will give them credit for trying to play out from the back, but let’s face it they were another side to come and put 11 players in their own box.

Not really, the best way to conserve energy is to just keep the ball, and know that a goal will come at some point.

Sometimes that will lead to a 1-0 win other times it might be 3 or 4, but the over arching theme is that we win games, hence the record broken in midweek and again this weekend.

It may not always be easy on the eye, but have a bit of respect for the fact that this team are en route to winning the league for the 5th time in a row, who cares how they do it.

Was utter garbage, again. Had piss easy hone games and it's been terrible, every game, boring as fuck. Let's hope we can liven up when it counts. Tho no rodri or kev is killing us. Midfield is a joke.

Where did I say I don't have any respect for them?

I said I think we need to move the ball more quickly.

Please don't put words in my mouth/ on my Bluemoon account!

We have to accept there a very few big wins in this team. We are still the bar to get too but other teams have improved and they seem to be able to stop us better than they did. I think we will be seeing much closer scorelines but as long as we are getting the 3 points thats really what matters. Shout out to Southampton they defended very well even if is hard too watch those tactics.
