They are probably furthest away they’ve been from that since Taggert packed it up, only Mourinho has broken the 80 points mark in that time. The new coach will be having to clear the decks of Ten Hags’ and Solksjaer’s signings with financial fair play looming over them. I don't think they've got a chance of top 4, they're crap with or without ten hag. they're not 14th crap but not close to top 4 despite the most expensive squad in history. The ones in charge have to know that. They cannot be deluded enough to think they've got a top 4 squad and as much as I'd love to see them in a relegation fight, that's never going to happen.
