Pretty simple question of quantity V quality really.

And while TV companies and to a lesser extent ticket buying fans, are prepared to keep paying regardless if the quality slightly drops, then quantity is going to win out every time.

I think it clear, to many games.

Was it 4 injuries in our game last night ? 3 looked like muscle related.

Add in the factor that today's pitches are hard without much give in them unlike 100% soil pitches. The body really doesn't have time to recover.

Everytime a City player sprinted I crossed my fingers that his hamstring didn't go. I don't want to be watching games where I'm more concerned about the injury count than I am the score line.

It seems all clubs are suffering with this.

Plus the standard of play is dropping.

And we will have had 3 international breaks before Christmas.

It's beyond a joke

Sort the thread title out :-)

Covid fucked up the fixtures, this was followed by a stupidly timed World Cup. The players have had no proper rest for 4 years.
Look how Haaland has benefitted from a summer off, most players haven't had one for 4 years.

And then we have the issue of a certain competition this summer.
Yep, people think it's bad this season, wait for next season

Last night was a classic and worrying example of too many games and quantity over quality.

In 9 out of 10 of the last seasons Pep would've had a full(ish) squad to pick from, played a very strong winning team, and said so.

The only potential benefit will be academy lads getting good minutes of competitive European & League Cup football.

A tipping point is coming !!

All the top clubs are likely to suffer. It is madness.

There appears to be a direct correlation twixt the increase in games, reduction in rest and recovery and number and frequency of injuries.

It is now affecting an increasing number of clubs and players.

Pep has referenced it for 4 years.

I doubt that it won't be challenged ....a tipping point is approaching.

League Cup needs scrapping. Or have it open to Championship teams and below.

The reality is it's a complete waste of time for the bigger clubs, and is less than chip shop paper by late Feb. I'd struggle to tell you who we beat for our four league cups under Pep. International schedule needs sorting, too.

Sticking a World Cup in the middle of a season with the extension of the fixture list to accommodate it either side hasn’t helped. The Fa cup final and champions league final for the treble ended up in June. Add to that world club championship then the Euros this summer, there isn’t much rest and recovery. City are victims of their success here and add to that extra champions league games and then a new world club championship format in the summer it looks like it will only get worse.

It's stupid as well, because who wants to watch City v Liverpool with KDB, Haaland, Salah and Van Dijk all injured? We want to see the best players play against each other, not two teams full of reserves because the first choice players are all injured.

Should only be for clubs not playing in Europe. That reduces the burden on the clubs that are in Europe plus it gives another club a chance to clinch a Europa League spot.

Other things I'd do:
  • PL reduced to 18 teams
  • Scrap the ridiculous Nations League that no one asked for meaning fewer international breaks.
  • Keep the current CL format but reduce it to 6 games - 1 vs a team in the same pot as you, 2 in the next two pots (e.g. 2 & £ if you're in Pot 1 or 4) and one in the furthest pot from you (i.e. Pot 4 if you're in Pot 2). Or 7 games - 1 vs a team in your own pot and 2 each in the other 3. And scrap this play-off, with the top 16 going through.

Disagree with any suggestions to end it, or reduce teams playing in it, purely because it lessens our history.

We've won this a ton of times, scrap the competition and people will forget that.

We can just take it as serious as we want, like we do now. It's good experience for the younger players and a good chance for backup players.

It's also a good chance for lesser teams to go far in a competition, if they're willing to take it seriously.

When the Ballon d’Or winner is getting up on the podium on crutches you’ve got a pretty powerful image the authorities have to work their arses off to ignore.

And when the Sheikh gets bored and we go back to being a mid table team do we ask for the League Cup to be brought back because now we have time to fit it in?
No. It's a total waste of time, in my opinion. Others will disagree but I'm willing to bet it has another ten years max before it's scrapped; at least in its current format.

Whilst the argument of "They get paid billions!" is a thing the players will just to have to play too much. Those silly twats need to stop saying that because the players are human and no amount of money matters with regards to being injured so much that you cant do what you ENJOY.
