Injuries 2024/25 | Ake & Bobb return to training

I haven’t been able to catch up through all of the pages of posts since this thread was created last night — has anyone been able to provide a list of players that were available to be acquired in the summer that would have been happy sitting on the bench (or staying completely out of the team) until a member (of our full senior squad to start the season) picked up an injury?

Genuinely interested in who we should have signed and how it would have impacted the composition of the match day squad!
The only player that was available and that I had hoped we would buy last summer was Neves, who alas went to PSG. I don’t think signing him would have affected squad balance.

10 weeks until the window, top of the league, comfortable in the CL and all without the worlds best player.
I get that, but the squad at this moment in time, with this amount of injuries, is as thin as it gets. Hopefully we can get to the International break with 3 wins and then after that break hopefully, the likes of Jack and KDB and others won't be far off returning, fingers crossed.

Not sure what the issue is with those two, not sure if it's injury.

If we get 3 wins in the next three games it will have been an outstanding start to the season.

That’s fair enough. Who would have dropped out of the regular match day squad to accommodate him, though?

That's not quite how it works though.

Playing your best players continually until they get injured and then playing back up players isn't a particularly smart method of squad management. Maybe Fulham at home in the league could enable the manager to rest key players for say Liverpool away and so on.

Sure, but it is also not really sustainable to have two or three full-fledged squad players regularly not even making the bench just in case one of the other players gets injured.

Clearly a balance needs to be found but I'd say we haven't done so this season. The squad is light in numbers and contains three senior players almost at the end of their respective top level careers. I'm not expecting any significant incomings in January btw.

City should have taken a punt on Victor Osimhen.

He’s on loan at Galatasaray after falling out with Napoli.

He’s 25 years old.

He scored 26 goals, and helped Napoli win the Serie A title.

He’s scored 4 goals in 5 games, with 2 assists for Galatasaray so far.

Pep would have worked wonders with him, alongside Haaland,

Oreilly looked very good 2nd half when gundo went off and he started believing a bit more in himself. I'd start him Saturday alongside kovacic and bernie assuming savio is out.
That's true but Pep will always choose the seasoned pro over the academy player to start a game. No doubt Gundogan is struggling at the moment. I think he misses Rodri as he fed off him a lot . However if he can get forward into the box on Saturday at key moments we may say his quality seep up to the top again. That's why Pep brought him back from Barca.

Strange, I could have sworn that McAtee & O'Reilly both started last night.

Apologies if it's been mentioned but what is KDB's injury? Seems like he's been out that long that I've forgotten.
